Its the pay for others business model
π¨π¦ IN CANADA, YOU CAN DRIVE THE SAME CAR FOR FIVE YEARS, HAVE ZERO ACCIDENTS, AND STILL WATCH YOUR INSURANCE BILL GO UP.
Think about how absurd that feels.
Your car is older.
Its resale value has fallen.
You havenβt made a claim.
Youβve maintained a clean driving record.
Yet your renewal arrives, and youβre paying more.
Why?
Because insurance premiums arenβt based solely on what YOUR car is worth or how YOU drive.
Insurers also price in:
π Rising vehicle repair costs.
π§ Expensive sensors, cameras and replacement parts.
π¨ Vehicle theft and claims across your area.
βοΈ Injury claims and legal expenses.
πͺοΈ Weather-related damage.
π° The overall cost of settling claims.
And hereβs the financial trap.
You need a car to get to work.
You need insurance to legally drive it.
You pay fuel taxes, sales taxes, registration costs, maintenance and parking.
Then your insurance premium rises even though youβve done absolutely nothing differently.
CANADIANS ARE PAYING MORE JUST TO KEEP USING THINGS THEY ALREADY OWN.
The same problem exists with home insurance, property taxes, condo fees and utilities.
These arenβt luxury purchases.
Theyβre recurring costs of ordinary life.
And unlike a restaurant meal or a vacation, many are difficult to avoid.
Thatβs why Canadaβs affordability problem is bigger than grocery inflation.
THE REAL SQUEEZE ISNβT ALWAYS BUYING SOMETHING NEW.
ITβS THE RISING COST OF KEEPING WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE.

Agreed. A dollar of cap space is worth the same in every market. Florida's tax break belongs to the player, not the team.
What surprises me is how nobody talks about the RCA. Canadian teams can put part of a player's salary into a Retirement Compensation Arrangement. Once he retires outside Canada, he withdraws it at roughly 25%. Net result: the same tax as "no tax" Florida, sometimes less. And far less than New York, Massachusetts or California.
But sure, keep calling Canada a tax nightmare. #WeAreGoldStar!
