@gregosuri has been highlighting the energy bottleneck in AI infrastructure. Now we're seeing it play out in real time AWS has GPUs waiting for power, while NVIDIA is pushing modular AI factories to accelerate deployment Distributed compute and modular data centres deserve serious attention @akashnet is ready to help bring distributed GPU capacity online NVIDIA's new DSX POD initiative aims to deploy AI factories in as little as 14 days at prepared sites, compared with six months for conventional deployments. The next big focus for infrastructure providers is getting compute online faster, putting idle GPUs to work, making money from existing hardware, and making AI compute more accessible and affordable
I've been sounding the horn about rising energy costs impacting hyperscalers for over four years and now AWS cannot deploy more compute due to lack of energy. Distributed modular datacenters are the future and Akash is ready. businessinsider.com/amazon-2…

🚨AKASH CORE TEAM PROPOSES MOVE TO SOLANA! Akash’s core team wants to leave its sovereign Cosmos chain and rebuild the decentralized compute marketplace as native programs on Solana. They say Solana is where DePIN already thrives, network fees would drop to ~0.075 $SOL a day, and it has the users and liquidity. Prop 346 is live for the community to decide. $AKT would migrate 1:1 to SPL.

@akashnet moving to Solana is the obvious call. The marketplace doesn’t need its own chain. No custom block processing, no special consensus — just orders, bids and leases that work anywhere. So Akash was paying to run a chain it wasn’t really using, while DePIN, liquidity and users were all on @solana. Fees there round to zero, which matters for a marketplace built on constant bids. Prop 346 is the first step. $AKT #DePIN #DeAI #Solana @akashnetAI

Everyone will read this as a UX update. Look at the fifth card. GPU deployments that got no bid at all: 36.2% → 23.9%. A third of people asking for a GPU used to walk away with nothing. Now it’s under a quarter. That’s not polish — that’s the difference between “I tried Akash once” and “I use Akash.” Signups up 49%, people deploying up 46%, fulfillment up to 54.7%, and fewer people quitting in the first ten minutes. Fix the thing that made people leave and growth takes care of itself. $AKT #DePIN #DeAI #Web3 #GPU @akashnetAI
Core team has been improving Console's onboarding, user interface, and overall experience. More updates are on the way to make Console a delight to use and to come back to. Drop-offs in the first ten minutes fell by a nearly a fifth.

New @defidecodedpod is out! I sit down with @gregosuri of @akashnet to discuss why decentralized compute networks could power the next wave of AI. Infrastructure bottlenecks, data centre backlash, and power shortages means we must tap into GPU capacity wherever it exists—even in our own homes. Always a blast chatting with Greg. Check it out!

Receipts from November 2024. @gregosuri said hyperscalers would end up with GPUs they couldn’t power. Business Insider just reported Amazon has warehouses of them — sites with room for more racks but not enough power to turn them on, and no clear forecasted path to installing them. He also said in Feb 2025 that everyone would be talking about the energy crisis in two years. Somewhere right now there’s a startup that can’t get an H100, and a warehouse full of them that nobody can plug in. That’s not a shortage. That’s an allocation failure — and it’s the exact problem @akashnet was built for. An open marketplace where any provider with powered, idle capacity can list it, and anyone who needs compute can rent it. No queue, no allocation meeting, no waiting on a substation. $AKT #DePIN #DeAI #Web3 #GPU @akashnetAI
I’ve been talking about Hyperscalers hoarding valuable GPUs because they have no where to install them due to power and supply chain constraints. An explosive investigation by Business insider just proved my suspicion. The industry has a liquidity problem.

As the cost of running intelligence climbs, more people are turning to open models. Akash's ecosystem serves both ends of that. AkashML inference for anyone without GPUs. Homenode for anyone with, renting out your card when you aren’t using it.

Revolut is down today because of a Google Cloud outage in London (europe-west2). A power event in one availability zone knocked out multiple services. Revolut’s app, cards, and payments went offline (funds and data are safe). Other banks and services were hit too. Why didn’t multi-region or multi-cloud save them? They use Google Cloud heavily (multi-year partnership) and do multi-region for some workloads. But the critical path (auth, card authorization, payments) was still too dependent on the London region. When that region had issues, failover didn’t fully cover it. True active-active multi-region/multi-cloud for stateful banking systems is expensive and complex (data consistency, latency, compliance, testing). Many fintechs accept the residual risk until an incident forces the issue. Decentralized options like Akash $AKT can reduce single-provider risk in theory, but they don’t currently match the compliance, SLAs, and predictability banks need for production payments infrastructure.
We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple services. We can confirm that all our customers’ money and data are safe. We’ve been working to fix the issue since it was identified this morning and apologise to anyone affected and for any inconvenience caused.

" I'll just build my own data center." " Mind the power bill." That exchange is the whole AI infrastructure story in few words. When you can't rent compute on reasonable terms, you build. When you build, you hit the grid. And the grid is years behind. There's a third option that didn't make the sketch: the GPUs that already exist, already powered, already sitting idle. @akashnet is the marketplace for those. $AKT #DePIN #DeAI #Web3 #GPU @akashnetAI

We held our first Capital Summit in Shanghai on Thursday, where we brought together hundreds of allocators and builders not just from China but from around the world to talk about capital formation around innovation. Some of the things I learned: - market cap for domestic listed companies is 1/6 of NY listed companies for equivalent earnings profiles - the dominance of bio and life sciences IP originating from the Chinese research market - there are over 50,000 SMEs from this market awaiting the opportunity to IPO
Solana convenes allocators and builders online through Internet capital markets. We do the same offline, most recently through a series of capital forums - in the last month alone, Silicon Valley, Singapore, and Shanghai.

$AKT thesis just got a massive validation from the @theallinpod. They never mentioned Akash. They didn't need to. 🎥 Chamath on the default odds the market is pricing on CoreWeave debt 👇 In the first 25 min, @bhorowitz, @chamath, @Jason and @DavidSacks dissected the CoreWeave selloff. What they described is the exact problem decentralized compute exists to solve. 1/ Compute is sold out. Ben says @ajassy told him the shortage runs "beyond 2028." Sacks: H100s and A100s, generations old, still rent at premium prices. Ben: the dot-com bust died from lack of demand. AI doesn't have that problem. 2/ The money is the weak link. Some CoreWeave debt traded to ~15% yields as rates climbed. CDS implied ~55% odds of default over 5 years. Chamath's caveat: that's the market's pricing, not his call. Ben called neoclouds "Rube Goldberg financial machines." Translation: simple job, absurdly complex setup. GPU contracts, data center leases, debt and memory buys all have to line up. One slips, the whole chain strains. Sacks calls it "just volatility." That's the point: when your implied cost of capital can jump from 9.6% to ~15%, your growth depends on the bond market. 3/ Building is the bottleneck. Ben: even labor to build data centers is hard, and politics make it harder. Sacks: local communities aren't racing to hand out entitlements. 4/ Power is the ceiling. The shortage is GPUs with power and cooling. Standing up gigawatts of new powered compute is hard even for Elon's team. Put it together: Demand isn't the problem. Concentration is. Concentrated capital, concentrated sites, concentrated power. Decentralized compute takes the opposite approach: an open marketplace for GPUs that already exist and are already powered, no $35B debt raise required. Neoclouds scale on debt. Networks scale on supply. Who scales faster from here: neoclouds or open networks? @akashnet @akashnetAI @CoreWeave
