New in @cellhostmicrobe we report a critical immune-centric role for #epigenetic reader SP140 in controlling the #microbiome. Humans and mice lacking SP140 displayed blooms of proteobacteria which was transmissible and a driver of #IBD cell.com/cell-host-microbe/f…
A stellar effort by @Harvard_Imm graduate student @fraschillair (who now embarks on her postdoc in the Tyler Jacks lab) with help from @HajeraAmatullah and Raza-Ur Rahman.
Mutations within this epigenetic reader associate with #crohnsdisease, #MultipleSclerosis and #CLL and may constitute a predisposing event in human diseases provoked by microbiota more generally authors.elsevier.com/a/1fnZ7…

#Epigenetic readers are often mutated in disease, but their functions remain largely unknown. @HajeraAmatullah @KateJeffrey1 study reader SP140 in #Crohnsdisease and reveal new avenues for CD research. Bonus- another great application of CUTANA™ CUT&Tag!

Incredible work by the talented (and hard working!) @HajeraAmatullah with support from @fraschillair, @dorkeyamas and all the Jeffrey lab. Kudos to our collaborators @RiouxLab. And a public tip-of-hat to @russellevance for generously supplying Sp140 CRISPR KO mice. @NIHFunding
Mutations within immune-restricted epigenetic reader SP140 were shown to associate with 3 #immune diseases: #crohnsdisease, #multiplesclerosis and #ChronicLymphocyticLeukemia (#CLL). However, how loss of SP140 contributes to these diseases remained elusive.
