A lot of times, we, myself included, talk about market-reflective electricity tariffs and emphasise the need for consumers to pay prices that reflect the true cost of generating and supplying electricity. But let us not pretend that these costs exist in isolation. The cost of generating electricity is also a function of operating inefficiencies, decaying infrastructure, poor maintenance, high inflation, FX instability and other structural problems within the system. These are costs that are peculiar to Nigeria and, to a large extent, reflect years of poor policy decisions, inadequate investment and government failure. All of these feed into the cost of generating and supplying electricity, and by extension, the so-called market-reflective tariff. Yes, consumers should pay prices that reflect the cost of electricity. But when do we begin to have an equally serious conversation about the inefficiencies that keep driving these costs upwards in the first place? Are we simply going to allow tariffs to keep rising to accommodate every increase in operating costs, regardless of whether those costs are justified or could have been avoided? At what point do we hold policymakers and operators accountable for the inefficiencies within the system? Can we also emphasise that? There is something fundamentally wrong with a system where consumers are repeatedly asked to pay more, not necessarily because the service has improved, but because the cost of delivering that service keeps rising due to structural inefficiencies. And consumers, who have very limited alternatives, are left to bear the consequences.
Band B go use 1 hp AC sleep - 8kwh consumption. Market reflective price : N1600 Band B: N480 FG subsidy: 1,120 As how? 😂😂😂

The goal should never be to go completely off-grid. The goal should be to build a system that guarantees consistent electricity for your essential needs, then scale it as your needs grow. Going completely off-grid sounds nice and makes for a good flex, but a more prudent and economical approach is to build a system that intelligently optimises for the cheapest available energy source while guaranteeing reliable power. You don't have to break the bank to get started. A decent 2.5 - 5M system should get you started.
Lol 2.6m doesn't take you completely off grid chief Even 5m doesn't take you totally off grid. We'd be back to revisit this conversation 😊

My goal is for more people to be understand how these things work, and run the numbers themselves. It's like expecting a Camry to be faster than a Lamborghini. It's just impossible. Energy comes at a cost and it's very rare to see who runs their gen 24/7.
In this solar and offgrid discourse, something I would like to add is that, energy comes at a cost. We need to have realistic conversations. Solar energy is the only available source of energy to the common man that is the cheapest (being affordable is a different conversation). What's the equivalent cost in petrol generator? Diesel? Grid ("the cost reflective band A"? What is the lifespan for your solar setup? When you spread that your solar setup installation, how much do you get energy cost wise? That's why as much as possible, I encourage people to get the best quality in their budget grade, and if the bulk money isn't available to do a fully optimal setup for their energy need, they can start something lean and scale up. Honestly the optimal direction for residential is a 48v setup. I started with a 24v setup and I had to sell it (sold at good price because I bought standard stuff), because the 48v was what was going to be better for me long term. So if you're starting and you want to do it long term, please start from there. You have better efficiency, more suites of products. There's also nothing bad in starting very small and doing gradual upgrades till you get to where you want to be. Again energy comes at a cost. Even with band A light, you self won't even power all these appliances you want to power with solar 24/7. There's no limitation to what solar energy can power, it's a budget or skill issue. Cut your coat according to your size, and always do your own research. If you want to do more peer learning about solar energy and other things, there's a community that exists on telegram. I have benefited immensely from the people there, and I urge you to benefit, and also contribute your experience to the community too. Link: t.me/+Qnu3EpWqJq05ODE0

Nigeria product review culture is completely dead. 99% of review you see here is paid for. The few honest and organic reviews.. the criminal justice system has been corrupted to punish them. The result is so many fake and substandard products... but shit is packaged as gold.
I bought the popular Itel 1KW Power Station, thinking it was a safe choice. Sadly, mine doesn't charge when it's delivering power, and it doesn't deliver power when it's charging. The seller claims that it should. What's your experience with the Itel Power Station?

Pull the trigger and get a competent solar install. You are already doing between 15m to 32m a year at the rate of your spend on diesel generator. 15m is the price of a decent sedan. At that price you have a tech that generates electricity from the sun and gives you a comfortable life. You only live once bro.. your well-being, your productivity matters a lot. I did spend considerably on my system but.. I have not a single regret. I am completely energy independent. When light was good in my Band A my system saves me between 350k to 500k a month on electricity bills. Now the power is unreliable so bad that everyone is complaining my neighbors runs his Diesel gen almost 247 but my system is always on. I have 5 AC, 3 water heater. I bake my own bread using excess solar at noon. All my cooking is done using induction. My lawn mower is electric. Water pump, pressure pump all run on solar. The system allows me to establish a base of comfort that allows me to focus and be productive (as a remote worker) I can wake up at midnight and head to my home office to get some work done in climate controlled room. I wrote some smart into my system that allows it to use weather information to decide when to take from grid during rainy season and when grid is down and heavy storms is predicted disable heavy non essential like pressure pump electric oven and cooker and water heater. Over the past year the system had only had to triggered once.. all through July to now I have been completely off grid. I am getting an EV and excess solar would now be used for charging it. Yes my system is not for everyone not everyone can afford it, but even I started small, very very small 10 years ago with a small setup to carry basic needs. That setup grew to what I have today. There is a protest planned for today around Lugbe Abuja to pressure govt to fix power unfortunately I am not around to participate I will continue to push for a better grid in Nigeria but I will never blink at using technology to solve my electricity problems. – at Ikeja, Nigeria
People have no idea how crazy it is , everyone saying buy solar , but it would cost 15m - 20m to get a solar system to power my place, the light used to be relatively good in my side , I have a diesel generator and I used to spend at most 180k monthly or 90k in 3 weeks on diesel. Since the light became bad I’ve been spending 90k almost daily on diesel because the heat is unbearable and I work from home. The craziest thing is that there’s no where to run to. God would help us all

I did this recently for a home. Powered with 21 600W panels with space for expansion to 30. Maximum of 2 1.5hp ACs in use plus normal home appliances so they’re off grid. They were spending 300k monthly on energy before this.

Imagine being able to generate your own power for daily life. And now cooking and powering your vehicle without the associated risk of geopolitical shocks. We need to open our eyes sha. The market will catch up.

And the interesting thing is that forget about green energy or even the environment. Its pure economics, its the cheaper than most forms of energy and when you start abstracting over with concepts like energy independence you start to see the value.

You have to understand there's global evidence of solar being deployed at megawatt scale. Your 5kva setup messing up is just a sign the right thing wasn't done.Low quality equipment,Incompetent technicians among other issues.

We are more interconnected globally, ask about solar in other countries and ask yourself why only nigeria stands out with "solar as a scam".

For instance also look at the proliferation of solar generators, whats heating up the market is a fight between 2 individuals. Not the quality of the components. Not the type of cells they used, etc

Its why cars that are not problematic enter nigeria and then they develop issues. Shortcut to everything, the same approach in every other thing. If a car is overheating for instance 9 times out of 10 they'll remove the thermostat. Do you know how inssane that is.

Remove the sensor that detects temperature and then say you've fixed the issue?
