Replying to @ESA_Hera
This sequence of images from its main Asteroid Framing Camera shows Hera getting closer to Didymos during October - until the point it can resolve both asteroids clearly esa.int/articles/about-us/di…

Mars may be volcanically active, say scientists who have linked evidence of gases often produced by magma with photographs of fresh fissures found on the surface of the Red Planet.

Closing in on Didymos. ☄️ Our planetary defence mission Hera has captured its first close-up of the binary asteroid system, 60 km away, as it prepares to investigate the aftermath of DART’s historic impact with Dimorphos. Detailed images of both asteroids are coming on 25 November. Read more: esa.int/articles/about-us/di…

Our Hera spacecraft can now see Didymos and Dimorphos as two separate asteroids! Coming closer, it will study the effects of NASA's 2022 DART impact and help advance asteroid deflection as a planetary defence technique. At last ESA's Hera spacecraft for planetary defence has come close enough to resolve both bodies in the Didymos binary asteroid system separately - the smaller one was deflected by NASA's DART back in 2022 esa.int/Space_Safety/Hera/Fi…

Hera’s second braking manoeuvre yesterday proved successful, reducing the spacecraft’s velocity relative to the Didymos and Dimorphos system by 70 m/s from a distance of 2300 km away. Some 90% of the 31-minute thruster firing took place in the early morning, followed by a cross-check of performance, with the remaining 10% occurring that afternoon. Hera is now moving at 20 m/s relative to the asteroids; a trio of smaller ‘transition’ manoeuvres this coming week will reduce Hera’s relative velocity down to near zero. hera.esa.int/
