Another incident has taken place in the West Bank. Bernard Baudoux, a mayor in France, was visiting the West Bank, likely because his town is sister cities with Taybeh. It appears he was attacked by radical settlers, as photojournalist Heidi Levine was yesterday. My condemnation or even condemnations from the IDF and the government are not enough. There needs to be consequences for these horrid actions.

Deep regret? That’s it? Not we’re suspending our recognition of Palestine because it was predicted on the promise of an internationally monitored election before the end of 2026? Not we’re suspending our latest $100 million dollar donation? Not we’re suspending our annual $50 million dollar donation to #UNRWA dedicated exclusively to the West Bank & Gaza? I deeply regret is not nearly enough!
Canada, alongside Australia, France and the United Kingdom, expresses deep regret over the postponement of Palestinian elections until September 2027. Nearly two decades have passed since the last Palestinian Legislative Council elections, leaving an entire generation without the opportunity to elect its representatives. We call on the Palestinian Authority to reconsider this decision and to take the necessary steps to hold legislative and presidential elections, without further delay.

CIJA Calls on Government of Canada to Hold Palestinian Leaders Accountable for Broken Statehood Commitments “Canada's joint statement implies that the Palestinian Authority (PA) has broken an explicit commitment on which recognition of Palestinian statehood was predicated: holding elections in 2026 in which Hamas would have no role. Yet the Canadian government offers no indication of what consequences the PA will face, while suggesting that Israel is somehow to blame for a decision made by the PA in cooperation with Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, both listed by Canada as terrorist entities. “While the Canadian government pursues punitive measures and sanctions against Israel, it must demonstrate that the Palestinians will also be held accountable for failing to honour their commitments and undermining the prospects for peace. "Otherwise, the government risks a dangerous double standard that has implications for both the region and for the safety of Canadians as security experts warn that criticism of Israel has been exploited to fuel antisemitism, violence and even acts of terror.”

After the Green Party's "Zionism is Racism" vote, the Leader of Haringey Council, which is controlled by the Greens, wrote to various Synagogues in the borough to "reassure" them. I want to show you Highgate Synagogue's reply. I believe it is worth reading in its entirety.

October 7 was the largest mass killing of Jews since the Holocaust. Today, I remember the hostages, now finally all returned and 1,200 people brutally killed by terrorists, including 8 Canadian citizens. In Ontario we are experiencing heightened levels of Jew hatred. It is unacceptable. All people in Ontario deserve to thrive, and be safe. Diversity is our strength and we cannot let the pendulum swing to hate, violence and intolerance. We cannot standby and allow people to be pitted against each other. May the memory of those who were lost be a blessing. May the families and communities who mourn find strength, support and comfort. And may the Peace that is still elusive be achieved.

Today marks three years since Hamas’ horrific terror attacks that killed 1,200 Israelis. We remember those who were murdered, including eight Canadians, and again express our deepest condolences for their unimaginable loss. May their memories be a blessing Toronto is a global city and events around the world impact us deeply. More than ever, Torontonians must remain united against rising antisemitism, confront it wherever it appears, and reaffirm our collective right to live together in peace and safety.  As mayor, I will never waiver on my commitment to the safety of Jewish Torontonians. The Jewish community should not need police presence to go to a synagogue, or a community centre or simply to live proudly Jewish in our city. We will continue to invest in keeping communities safe and strong and will take action until every Torontonian can practice their faith without fear. We all must be dedicated to confronting antisemitism and hate in all its forms, and building a caring city where everyone belongs.

Thank you, Constable Jeff Smith and the officers of @BLVLPolice, for your courage in the face of evil. Truly heroic. Belleville stands with the Sons of Jacob congregation and the Jewish community. Wishing Jeff a full recovery, and strength to his family.

I say this alot, but this has *never* happened to Canada before. Asshole thugs targeting Jews has happened in the US and it's obviously happened in Europe, but it's new here. 159 years of history and we're going backwards.
I'm a journalist. And I happen to be Jewish. On Yom Kippur I went to a synagogue service in Toronto and was met by protesters trying to taunt and intimidate me from entering the building. 1/5

This is a legitimate question, which deserves a serious answer. And that answer is: sue for peace. Abandon your century-long war against Jewish self-determination in the Land of Israel, and sue for peace. Here are several minimal confidence-building measures the Palestinians could take to convince Israelis that they do not want to kill us all as soon as we turn our backs: 1. Clarify you do not want "from the river to the sea". When activists cry "FROM THE RIVER TO THE SEA!" in London and New York, reply, "NOT IN MY NAME!" Tell them you want to live next to Israel, not instead of it. 2. Renounce the so-called "right of return" and dissolve UNRWA. Palestinians born in Palestinian-governed territories in the West Bank should receive their services from their Palestinian government, not the UN. Announce that Gazans wish to rebuild permanent homes, not refugee camps where they'll bide their time at international taxpayers' expense till they can move to Tel Aviv. Drop the illusion that millions of descendants of refugees from a war 80 years ago are going to settle in Israel's sovereign territory. 3. Stop supporting terrorism. Condemn terror attacks against Israelis, just like you expect Israel to condemn settler violence. Stop the pay-for-slay scheme for good, instead of funneling it through other channels. 4. Announce your willingness to negotiate on the basis of the "Peace to Prosperity" plan. Accept that Israel is never going to divide its capital city and turn the Western Wall, or the Old City Walls, into a border wall. Accept that Israel is never going to surrender the mountains surrounding Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, and sue for the best you could possibly hope to get. Here are just some ideas. Palestinians are adults. They have agency. They are not hopeless children with no options but throwing rocks and blowing themselves up. These ideas are a good place to start.
Replying to @EylonALevy
So we can never have a state and we can never have equal rights under Israeli rule. So what are Palestinians supposed to do? We are just supposed to leave?? Do you see why Palestinians even people like me who oppose Hamas and jihadism are upset?

Israel condemns the ongoing violence against Jews in Canada. The continued shooting attacks against Jewish targets must stop. These incidents undermine prospects for peace, security and reconciliation. We call for the de-escalation and protection of civilians. The law must be respected, and all civilians must be able to live in safety and security.

The Jewish community in Ontario is exhausted by political platitudes without action. I offer my personal commitment to do better. Doug Ford and Doug Downey, Ontario’s attorney general, could take action tomorrow to increase the capacity of our court system, prioritize prosecution of hate crimes, and step up policing and security. The federal government, for its part, has neglected responsibility for its failures too. Too many leaders have taken this community for granted, even while antisemitic extremism has metastasized into a major problem in Toronto and Ontario. No matter what you think about global conflicts, the threats Jewish Canadians are facing should be unacceptable to us all.

“Stories involving needles keep coming up" Jewish patients in Australian hospitals keep experiencing the same thing: once the medical professional treating them realizes they are Jewish, they reportedly struggle to insert IVs. “It is an easy way to make someone suffer, and there is always an explanation: ‘I couldn’t find the vein,'" said Nurit Haddad, a mental-health nurse in New South Wales, who said she had heard multiple similar stories. That is not the only example of antisemitism in Australian hospitals. After the Bondi Beach attack, one doctor allegedly described those who attended a memorial as “Zionists supporting genocide.” In Sydney, a Jewish women who gave birth via caesarean section was allegedly left for hours without pain relief. She was reportedly lying in her own blood, while her newborn cried beside her. In Melbourne, a woman was reportedly mocked for seeking mental health support after her family members in Israel were killed in Hamas's October 7th attack on Israel. “This is not a competition of tragedies,” she said. “We are all suffering, and I simply needed help dealing with my grief.” “Patients are extremely vulnerable in hospital,” one midwife said. “Doctors, nurses and midwives hold enormous power over them.” These are only some of the stories that have recently come to light. Medical antisemitism must be stopped.

60,000 at @UJAFederation’s Walk For Israel in Toronto today. Love, love, love seeing these good people standing up for the only democracy in the Middle East, which is under siege from obscurantist forces. Nothing can replace Jewish pride. No challenge is too big for Jews with the heads held high. 💪🇮🇱✡️
