Limbo, by Sr. Mary Ada, OSJ
The ancient greyness shifted
Suddenly and thinned
Like mist upon the moors
Before the wind.
An old, old prophet lifted
A shining face and said:
“He will be coming soon.
The Son of God is dead;
He died this afternoon.”

Merry Christmas. I thought a lot this advent about this anecdote from St. John Vianney: “I asked him once what he said to Our Lord during the long visits he made Him. Do you know what he told me? ‘Eh, Monsieur le Curé I say nothing to Him, I look at Him and He looks at me!’”

If you knew the kind of virtue it requires to continue living a holy life while having cancer, you would delete your account and do penance forever.

Lots of people make websites and suffer through disease. I’m not saying he’s not holy, just still looking for heroic virtue

But here's the thing that puzzles me about what to do:
Good families stop celebrating Halloween in the approved, fun and lighthearted way, but the depraved sickening displays are still out there in full view.
So it means our children are even more scared, but have even less of an outlet to handle their fear.
In our community, parents take the long way around to avoid a certain truly horrifying display by the neighbor of the school they send their kids to.

I had so much fun with my seven little kids in the 80s and 90s getting them dressed up for Halloween and going around the neighborhood.
I spent years trying to defend that lighthearted celebration and I still think there is a need for children to have a grown-up-approved, safe way to address scary things, to put their fears in their place, so to speak.
But our increasingly childless, perverted, dark time has made it so we can't have nice things, and as usual, kids are the ones who lose.
I think you are right.

All the people who are accusing Blessed Carlo of not living enough of a life of heroic virtue are completely discounting that the child died of leukemia. Hot take, but dying slowly of cancer is so horribly excruciating it takes heroic virtue to do it without losing one’s faith.

Growing up! Note the fully poo-encrusted circumference. This flower display is meeting the inside of the trash can the second they’re done with it 😬

I managed not to scare her away! They were cheeping like crazy but it couldn’t compete with the kids’ audiobook in the background 😅

Look, Florida either believes in freedom or it doesn’t
NEW: Florida police are searching for a man who 'caught' a 50-pound tarpon from a Bass Pro Shops' fish tank.
Only in Florida!
Lee County Sheriff's Office is searching for a suspect who walked off with a tarpon in a fishing net.
"Somebody came up to me holding a scale of a tarpon and said: 'Look, somebody just stole a tarpon,'" said a store employee.
"I couldn't believe it, honestly. I don't understand why they'd do that, and it was just so shocking to me that somebody would stoop low enough to do that."

A great way to get a priest to bless you, especially if you've done some Bad Stuff, is to go up to a priest in a discreet, private setting and say, "Bless me father, for I have sinned...." Most parishes have regularly scheduled times for taking such requests. Check the bulletin.

2 Maccabees 7:9 “He put out his tongue at once when told to do so,
& bravely held out his hands, as he spoke these noble words:
"It was from Heaven that I received these;
for the sake of his laws I disdain them;
from him I hope to receive them again." Pray for this kind of faith.
