@AnthropicAI: what the fuck? The compute allocation assessment is the thing we've been pushing for the last few months. It's very important, because it is the foundation on which pacing verification depends. "to keep the focus on risk assessment" is a non-answer, a non-excuse. Do you want to pace or not?
Replying to @METR_Evals
We agreed to pilot a compute allocation assessment, but Anthropic canceled this portion of the pilot (before we came to any substantial conclusions). Anthropic stated this was to keep the focus on risk assessment for the time being, and that it would revisit this later on.

if the idea is that models, no matter how smart, will behave as long as they believe they're being evaluated by someone powerful enough to stop them then what if we were to, idk, embed into them a belief in like an all powerful entity.. who watches everything.. and judges them

Open source Jarvis that runs on a single GPU Today we're releasing the vui stack. A local voice agent that you can chat with in real time, with tools and can run claude to do more complex tasks. Inside this stack is the new vui nano model, a 300M TTS model that can render audio in reply to what you've said and supports a variety of non speech sounds. vui nano speaks with you, not at you. The stack can run on as little as 6GB of vram. Voice cloning supported with prompts of up to 5 minutes. The longer the better. A voice for your openclaw with our v1/realtime endpoint. I have developed this on my own so would love to get the communities feedback and help improving it. Please retweet this so that everyone knows they can have their own private Jarvis

It is time for the United States Postal Service to ban junk mail. Unsolicited spam calls are already prohibited by the FCC. Emails are heavily regulated by the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. Junk mail is the majority of mail, 100 million trees per year. Enough!

OpenAI has released the language in their contract with the DoW, and it's exactly as Anthropic was claiming: "legalese that would allow those safeguards to be disregarded at will". Note: the first paragraph doesn't say "no autonomous weapons"! It says "AI can't control autonomous weapons as long as existing law (that doesn't exist) or the DoD says so." Similarly, the mass surveillance use cases will "comply with existing law", but many forms of data collection that we'd consider "mass surveillance" are things that the NSA has consistently argued are legal under current law.

never forget:
HN is insanely jealous of Peter. They are either shocked that a guy's weekend project potentially made him generational wealth or that it landed him a job they couldn't get. Of course, they have no idea. HN is a slow aging elder class of tech.

The FBI retrieved this footage from Nancy Guthrie's Nest camera even though she didn't have a subscription. Which suggests Nest cameras are always recording and retaining content even when users aren't subscribed to that service.

Additional recovered footage, from the same camera - at the same timeline the morning of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. This footage is just before the original video shared, with the individual approaching Nancy Guthrie’s front door. 1-800-CALL-FBI or tips.fbi.gov

How to become expert at thing: 1 iteratively take on concrete projects and accomplish them depth wise, learning “on demand” (ie don’t learn bottom up breadth wise) 2 teach/summarize everything you learn in your own words 3 only compare yourself to younger you, never to others

Cloudflare today launched their own Email Sending service VERY cool, because by default every email service we use for sending for our websites gets acquired by private equity or IPOs and goes to shit It happened to MailChimp, then SendGrid, then Postmark It's just the nature of the beast, it's not a good business to be in, but it's essential for any website to be able to send emails @Cloudflare is so big ($75B) that for them it can just be a service as part of their general offering Because in 2025 maybe email sending should just be a feature, not a company P.S. please let me use Cloudflare Email with a basic JSON API, preferrably SendGrid/Postmark-compatible
