He fails to mention that for 40 years, New Zealanders have been able to enrol right up until midnight before election day. The last two elections we could even enrol on election day. It’s a massive backwards step that many people won’t know about until they try vote.

The jobseeker change is in 15 days. Nearly 5000 young people (including sick and disabled) are being booted off Jobseeker benefit. Many students will have no income over study break as well. National brought this forward to coincide with election. It was meant to be July 2027.
