Map of estimated turnout of the adult population in the 1940 US Presidential Election. The strong effects of Jim Crow voting restrictions & poll taxes are visible (see the WV/VA border!), with less than 10% of the adult population voting in some Southern counties (dark orange):
It looks like the Green Party has flipped a state legislative seat in Hawaii! It comes in #HD14, a Harris+16 seat covering the Lahaina area.
Pāʻele Kiakona was a major activist during the wildfires there and won major union support for his campaign. He beat a Democrat and the Democrat-turned-Republican incumbent (who only got less than 20% of the vote)

Really thought Troy Jackson would do even better with the “Bloc Acadiens” in northern Maine
He’s from the area, Trump pissed off the Canadians, it’s a working class ancestral Dem area where I’d think high heating costs would hurt Rs
He did get some better swings there at least:

It's crazy how close all of these states are. If it was a D+9 year like generic ballot was saying it's basically a coinflip.
Interested to see the 2026 result in the KY-95 state house seat. Ashley Laferty (D), who was able to hold the seat despite it voting for Trump by over 50 pts, is retiring
Dems found a good nominee tho, was a state senator there for 20 years, lost by 7 in 2020. Could it be close?
Not looking good:
It does look like the Republicans will flip the last coal country district in Kentucky, as they have a wide lead in the early vote in #HD96 (Trump+58):
Tanner Hesterberg (R)- 57.7%
Johnny Ray Turner (D)- 42.3%
The one good piece of news for them tonight so far.
