How did I only just discover BioNumbers??? It's "the database of useful biological numbers" — amazing! This is an excellent resource to find interesting things like, "how many bacteria are in the ocean?" to add to an article or talk. Check it out --> bionumbers.hms.harvard.edu/s…

Day 7 of our #2020InReview in memory of Arren, #arrenwithus: The reconstruction of a bacterial CO2 concentrating mechanism (CMM) in a synthetic-autotrophic E. coli. Great example of portability and investigation of CMMs By @flamholz et al. elifesciences.org/articles/5…

Engineering of a CO2 concentrating mechanism into crops is likely to help make more food with fewer resources. A key breakthrough by @flamholz @SavageCatsOnly @MiloLabWIS now published: the first transfer of such a mechanism to a different organism. elifesciences.org/articles/5…

We are deeply sorry for the loss of Arren Bar-Even. Arren did his masters as a joint student in Barkai and @TPilpel labs, and his PhD with @MiloLabWIS. We was a great scientist and a fascinating person. We send our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
Our lab has faced the greatest loss imaginable. To us Arren was a mentor, a supervisor, a friend and the head of a family. We are shocked and speechless. Our thoughts are with everyone who got to know this unique genius. He will be sorely missed.

Very happy to have more work from my time at @ucsd_sbrg out. We estimated maximal in vivo catalytic rates in growth-optimized knock out strains and show that max rates are robust and consistent. Building on fantastic work by @dan_davidi and @MiloLabWIS. pnas.org/content/early/2020/…
