It's just like how they ignored and completely misunderstood the Iryna Zarutska murder

It's holiday season so of course a couple with their camper van thought it acceptable to break my fence and camp overnight on my land. They are now blocked in with our small tractor, should be fun when they wake up.

Current generative AI is not a stochastic parrot but a beyond human-level strenght stochastic golem. What makes golems terrifying is that they may be impossible to stop while lacking the sentience to make the right choices. I also perceive our current civilization as a golem.

Ben thinks post singularity AGI will be driven by love and form goals that are all over the place, Eliezer thinks it will be a monothematic maniac who is going to kill everyone because their gol is more important. It’s like each of us thinks AGI is going to be like ourselves

This is an absolute obsession of mine. Politicians putting out some carefully worded statement that is then reported by some dunderhead as someone has “denied” “rejected” “quotes out of context” etc when it’s nothing of the kind IF YOU CAN READ
This Alex Hawke statement doesn’t reject or question a single quote jn book “addicted to power” yada yada . Good reading comprehension test for any journalist today reporting this statement to (wrongly) assert he didn’t say what he said

One thing apparent from a lot of the #vicvotes tweets this morning is that Victoria generally significantly overestimates how much time the rest of Australia spends thinking about Victoria.

Just ponder. If John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, had devised a buttoned woollen coat, and James Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, has put his lunch between two slices of bread - we'd be wearing Sandwiches and eating Cardigans.

Lachlan Murdoch wants to sue @crikey_news for this sentence. “The Murdochs and their slew of poisonous Fox News commentators are the unindicted co-conspirators of this continuing crisis.” It'd be a shame if people started simply retweeting it. nytimes.com/2022/08/22/busin…

Thousands of retweets of this completely junk graph that essentially says "if you ignore literally every clinical parameter we know about COVID and vaccination after now years of research, everyone will eventually get Long COVID." This isn't science and it's barely even maths.
This graph is a draft for a Long Covid paper I'm working on. The paper will be a while, but I think it's important that people - and policy makers - understand the implications now. It is *very* serious.
