Two children, Princess Sabineti and Trinity Sabineti, were found walking along the road in Kadoma at around 5pm while trying to find transport to Norton, where their mother, known as Forgi, is said to live. The children only had US$1 for transport and said they had already walked around 15km. Fortunately, a man who came across them stepped in to assist and took them to Kadoma Central Police Station for their safety. One of the children goes to Tambiranashe Primary School in Norton, and her teacher’s name is Madam Hwari. Anyone who recognises the children or knows their family is kindly asked to share this information to help reunite them with their mother and loved ones. ***Vana ava vanga vachigara naAmbuya naSekuru kuVenice after Kadoma then mbuya naSekuru vakarwa. UZ's Alarming Academic Scandal The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) has plunged into another serious academic scandal. Students are now permitted to submit any material as dissertations and projects without proper supervision or a formal defence in front of an academic board. Instead, students simply submit whatever they have, and the chairperson arbitrarily assigns a mark. Consequences of Compromised Standards Degradation of Academic Rigor: By abandoning essential academic rituals such as supervision and defence, UZ risks producing graduates who lack the necessary knowledge and skills. Loss of Credibility: This scandal severely damages the credibility of UZ degrees, undermining the institution’s reputation nationally and internationally. Turning into a Banana University: The absence of proper academic oversight highlights how UZ has devolved into an institution where standards are sacrificed for expediency. Roles of Key Stakeholders VC Paul Mapfumo: His leadership is under scrutiny for allowing these malpractices to thrive. ZIMCHE Board @ZimcheOfficial : The Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education’s inaction has enabled the erosion of academic standards. Minister Frederick Shava @mhtestd : His failure to intervene decisively exacerbates the crisis. Call to Action The academic community must urgently demand accountability and restore rigorous standards, including proper supervision and defence of dissertations and projects, to protect UZ’s future. #AUTUZisonStrike #AcademicIntegrity #SaveUZ @SADC_News @NewsDayZimbabwe @gama_stanley @daddyhope @advocatemahere @freemanchari @Hon_Kasukuwere @gift_mugano @ProfJNMoyo @amutambara @ProfPMavima @drjaytee87 @DrNkuSibanda @MakomboreroH @LynneStactia @ibbosnr @ali_naka @ZimEye @zimlive @KarenyiKore @adv_fulcrum @AdvDali_Mpofu @Julius_S_Malema @TrevorNcube @crimewatchzw @eNCA @BBCAfrica @FRANCE24 @UKinZimbabwe @USEmbZim @HHichilema

Police block Mine Workers rally citing presence of ARTUZ and ZINASU. 01 May 2025 Assistant Inspector Dube of Hwange police station dispersed mining workers who were gathered to commemorate Workers day at Hwange Colliery Stadium. The police officer said he had instructions to block the rally since the Mining Workers had invited Obert Masaraure, President of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe, ARTUZ and Emmanuel Sitima President of Zimbabwe National Students Union, ZINASU. Masaraure and Sitima were invited to be guest speakers on a panel that also included Member of Parliament Daniel Molokeli and the President of the National Mining Workers Union of Zimbabwe, Mr Nomboka. Workers reacted angrily to the blockage with one worker describing the behavior of the police as worse than under Ian Smith. The May Day is commemorated annually and at no point under Robert Mugabe did police bar workers from meeting on this special day. Morgan Tsvangirai was a regular guest at ZCTU organised commemorations but police never blocked such gatherings. The MOPA exempts Trade Unions from seeking clearance when convening gatherings. Freedoms of association and assembly are also protected by sections 58 and 59 of the constitution. President Mnangagwa has suspended the constitution. ARTUZ President bemoaned the shrinking of democratic space and called on police Zimbabwe to respect human rights. He further urged workers to rise in unison to fight back against corruption, slave wages and Mnangagwa’s 2030 ambitions. ZINASU President, Emmanuel Sitima described the police conduct as barbaric and illegal. He also rallied citizens to stand strong and to start organizing in the face of all these injustices. NMWUZ President Nomboka threatened to sue the police for blocking a lawful gathering. The meeting was set to be held under the theme, “End Workers exploitation, workers unite for social justice.” Workers organizations are now organizing outside the ZCTU which many accuse of being captured by the Mnangagwa regime. Darlington Matola's suspension is part of the reprehensible drive by the state to subdue one of the few progressive movements left in Zimbabwe. The criminalization of student activism must be fought and condemned. Legally, politically and by all means possible.

Impeachment must be about accountability, not factional wars. The call for impeachment of President Mnangagwa should be weighed on legal merit, constitutional grounds, and the broader interests of Zimbabweans, not personal or factional battles. If the allegations against him involve gross misconduct, corruption, or violations of the Constitution, then due process must take its course. However, if impeachment is merely a tool for factional fights within ZANU PF, then it does not serve the people. It only serves political elites. As Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD), our position remains clear. We stand for accountability and constitutionalism. If impeachment is initiated based on solid evidence of national harm, such as economic mismanagement, human rights violations, or corruption, we will support it. However, if it is just an internal power struggle disguised as a national cause, we will not be used to legitimize factional fights within ZANU PF. Zimbabweans are suffering, and the real focus should be fixing the governance system rather than being drawn into elite power battles. Whether Mnangagwa stays or goes without structural reforms, the suffering will continue. Let’s not be distracted, our fight is for systemic change, not factional interests.

I don't see any real possibility of impeachment any time soon, considering the political dynamics at play. In theory, impeachment is a constitutional tool meant to hold a sitting president accountable. However, in Zimbabwe’s current political landscape, the chances of it succeeding are extremely low. Impeachment requires a two-thirds majority in Parliament. ZANU PF still holds the majority, and despite internal divisions, most MPs owe their political survival to Mnangagwa. Unless the faction pushing for impeachment gains overwhelming support within ZANU PF itself, it will be dead on arrival. It is not a secret as well that Zanupf controls Parliament, including opposition MPs. If impeachment is coming from an internal faction rather than a genuine constitutional concern, it is more about power struggles than national interest. Even if one faction wants Mnangagwa out, they will face resistance from those still loyal to him or benefiting from his rule. I doubt if opposition still has an effective role in Parliament. If it has, opposition may support impeachment in principle, but their votes alone are not enough to remove Mnangagwa. Some opposition members might even be sceptical, knowing this could be a factional game within ZANU PF rather than a true chance for change. Is This a Serious Call Worth Our Attention? Politically? Yes, because it exposes cracks within ZANU PF and the shifting power dynamics ahead of 2028. Realistically? No, because without mass defections from Mnangagwa’s loyalists in Parliament, impeachment remains highly unlikely to succeed. The Bigger Picture Instead of being distracted by factional battles, Zimbabweans should focus on demanding real electoral and governance reforms that ensure future leaders are accountable before they take office not just when they fall out of favour with their own party.

Every progressive Zimbabwean has the obligation and mandate to fight corruption beyond factional wars. We have walked this road before, and the majority didn't benefit anything from the mass action. If the allegations of corruption and abuse of state resources are proven, then yes, Zimbabweans must unite to challenge this. Corruption is at the heart of Zimbabwe’s economic collapse, and it affects everyone, regardless of political affiliation. It is one thing calling out corruption. Evidence is important for action to take place. However, the challenge is that many who expose corruption do so selectively not because they care about the people but because they have lost out in internal power struggles. Real accountability should not be based on factional interests but on national interest. What Strategies Should People Use to Fight Corruption? • We need to demand transparency and accountability. As long as we do not push for forensic audits of state spending, tenders, and procurement deals, it is not yet uhuru. It is important to demand parliament to strengthen anti-corruption laws with strict enforcement mechanisms. All corrupt dealings should be exposed through independent media, civil society, and legal action. • We need to mobilize public pressure, not protests. Protests failed kudhara in this country. The alternative is the use of mass petitions, legal challenges, and peaceful activism to demand action. Citizens must consistently question government spending, demand budget transparency, and reject corrupt politicians. • We need to strengthen Institutions. ZACC (Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission) and thejudiciaryy must be independent. If compromised, alternative oversight mechanisms should be created by civil society. It is imperative to advocate for the Protection of Whistleblowers Act so that those exposing corruption are protected from political persecution. • Economic resistance against corrupt systems is the way to go. Unfortunately, handione maZimba achizvigona izvi. Businesses linked to corruption and state abuse should be boycotted. Instead, citizens should support independent local enterprises rather than monopolies created through corrupt deals. What lacks in our political economy is pragmatic political awareness & and electoral action. Corrupt leaders must be voted out, regardless of their party. Zimbabweans should move away from hero-worshipping, corrupt politicians, and demand clean governance. We need to collectively push for electoral reforms to reduce the use of state resources in election campaigns. The Bottom Line Corruption must be fought at a systemic level, not just as a tool in factional wars. If Geza or anyone else is serious about fighting corruption, they must expose and fight it at all levels, not just when they fall out with their party. Zimbabweans must reject selective outrage and demand full accountability, whether it benefits a faction or not.
