In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump and his family have lost surprise elections, thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

I was pleased to contribute to the Bell review. School is where children should feel safest. But I was shocked by the abuse and antisemitism faced by Jewish children. The recommendations must lead to better protection for children and more support for teachers.
Antisemitism has no place in our schools, colleges or society. We accept all 27 recommendations from Sir David Bell’s review. We will equip schools and colleges to identify and challenge antisemitism, strengthen Holocaust education and help every young person learn in safety.

Back from a successful trip to Washington to meet @SecWar. The gravest dangers of the 20th century are returning, armed with the technologies of the 21st.    We need to strengthen our military capabilities, out-innovate and out-produce our adversaries, and strengthen our alliances. No alliance in the world is as close as 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 We’ve never been content to merely watch history unfold. We’ve acted to determine its course. When freedom and tyranny are in competition we stand for freedom. We discussed the frontline for freedom in Ukraine, the threat posed by Iran, and our responsibility to strengthen European NATO in the face of Russian aggression. The UK is the causeway across the Atlantic that binds together Europe and America. In times of our greatest peril, we have shown ourselves capable of achieving great things. We still can. We’re delivering the biggest sustained increase in defence spending since the Cold War - a stronger Britain, in a stronger Europe, for a stronger NATO.

On the fifth anniversary of the murder of my good friend Sir David Amess, killed doing his job as an MP, I'm thinking of his family. David was unfailingly kind & treated everyone equally. In our democracy, everyone should be able to go about their work without fear of violence.

Total support for this. There are plenty of things where we have healthy disagreement, but there are some core values - the things that define us as a country - that are under attack and unity is strength.
The strongest section of Kemi Badenoch's speech so far: "To those who say “unite the right”... we are not uniting with THAT. I don’t want to live in a country run by people who threaten journalists, call veterans traitors and debate whether my mixed-race children are English. "I don’t want to explain to my son, when we’re watching our brilliant England team play football, that some people don’t think our black players are English. "I remember back in the day when Ian Wright and John Barnes were playing - nobody was questioning whether they were English. We certainly didn’t have sitting MPs questioning whether they were English. "We must not let these people take us backwards. That is not the country we are. I don’t know whether you’ve noticed, but I am black. I am British. I’m proud of my country, I’m proud of our history."

Today marks three years since October 7th 2023 - the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. On that day, Hamas terrorists unleashed a wave of barbaric violence, murdering more than 1,200 innocent men, women and children, and taking 251 people hostage. We remember all those murdered. May their memory be a blessing.

Three years on from the October 7 attacks on Israel, we remember those who were senselessly killed by Hamas terrorists. The impact of the attacks has been felt not just in Israel, but in Jewish communities across the world who still bear the burden of the tragic events that day. In the years since, we have seen a disturbing rise in antisemitic behaviour in the UK. A year ago we witnessed a horrifying terrorist attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Manchester, with further attacks against Jewish people and institutions since. I want Britain’s Jewish community to hear this from me directly. We stand with you. Abuse and violence against you, in any form, will not be tolerated. Not on our streets, not online, not in our schools or universities. That’s why we are funding protection for synagogues, schools and community buildings, and why we will come down hard on antisemitism wherever it is found - in classrooms, on campuses and in neighbourhoods. At home, we are committed to protecting our citizens from vile hatred. Abroad, we continue to work towards a two-state solution, with Israelis and Palestinians living side by side in peace and security. An attack on Jewish people in Britain is an attack on all of us. Antisemitism has no place in this country, and we will do everything we can to stamp it out.

Today’s vote at the Green Party Conference crosses a line and is rightly being condemned across the political spectrum. Labour will continue working to ensure Jewish communities are safe and have their rights upheld. We must rid our society of the scourge of antisemitism.
