Every Publix apologist: “Gotta wait for them to go on BOGO, no one says you have to get them now. Plus the high prices keep away undesirables and keeps their workforce employed. I shop there for the experience.”
Publix needs to calm TF down. 🤨

Let's talk about a longtime DC resident who owned a property for which she was unable to collect rent, and whether we think what she went through is just. Veronica Hegens, 59, bought a row house in DC many years ago. Smart investment, right? She lived in it for years until she decided to rent it out when she had to move in with her own father to care for him. Hegens is a retired Army major. At first, her renter, a participant in the city's voucher program, worked out fine. Most of his rent was paid by the city's taxpayers ($2,600/month). Her renter then notified her he would vacate. All good, Hegens was prepared to find another tenant. But the renter died shortly before his move-out date. Upon his unexpected death, Hegens discovered his girlfriend, who had never signed a lease, was occupying the property with no intent to leave. DC's rules for what qualifies one as a "tenant" are lax, so a person without a lease occupying the apartment gets a lot of legal considerations. The girlfriend had not paid rent for 6 months at the time local news covered Hegens' plight. When Hegens, the owner of the property, changed the locks on the property, the girlfriend took her to court and received a temporary restraining order and was able to stay in the property. Hegens fell behind on her mortgage without rental income, was coming close to foreclosure, and became less and less able to make repairs due to financial strain and the girlfriend's obstinate occupancy. Hegens had to pay for court expenses and was charged fines by the city for not keeping up with her responsibilities while the unemployed girlfriend lived in her property. There are groups that give free legal services to people like the girlfriend. In March of 2026, Hegens and the girlfriend went to mandated mediation. The mediator told the girlfriend to vacate, but with ANOTHER 4 months to find new housing. She was asked to pay minimal rent during that time (about 1/5 of what the actual tenant had paid). The girlfriend finally moved out of the unit in June— a total of 9 months of zero or minuscule rent for Hegens on the property she owns. Hegens credits local news coverage with the resolution of her case in a relatively timely manner. A local advocate for small landlords says many such cases take more than a year to reach any kind of resolution.
Every year, thousands of DC residents lose their homes over unpaid rent. Most owe less than $5,000. Going to court is stressful for tenants, expensive for landlords, and slows down the system. We need a better way to resolve rent issues. 🧵⬇️

Do you think after a year of conservatives seeing their progressive friends and family members celebrate Charlie’s death on social media and root for Elon to be jailed—that they’re going to be honest with polls or even their friends? Very 2015 vibes.

The fact so many liberal normies have this insane, evil bloodlust whenever Charlie Kirk’s name is mentioned is sickening. A man was brutally murdered on 4K video, and they laugh and cheer whenever his name or picture comes up! And then they say they wish it happened to you, too!

We will deport you over FARA violations.
Did you know that even if you are not a US citizen, there are multiple ways to lawfully support candidates and causes you care about in the upcoming election? With Election Day less than a week away (November 3), it can be confusing to navigate the rules and regulations of campaigns, elections and the voting process. To help you understand these intricacies, we’re excited to announce our community resource, a Get Out The Vote (GOTV) Guide organized by age and immigration status. Find out how you can legally participate, from voting if eligible to serving as a poll worker or advocating for issues that matter to you. f.mtr.cool/4idmo09weu

Actually, yes! The government punishing wrong speech like racism is magnitudes worse than the racism itself, which is an opinion. This is a good example of how so many foreigners are incompatible with American culture.
You’re remarkably quick to invoke the First Amendment when someone is accused of directing xenophobic abuse at a man of Indian descent, yet conspicuously less vocal about the equal standing of the Americans subjected to that racism. You are simply more outraged by the prospect of someone being held accountable for racist conduct than by the racism itself.

I might speak to this. I married a foreigner on a visa, the entire 6 months leading up to the wedding and the 6 months after was a bureaucratic nightmare. We had several applications for green card quashed for procedural reasons. I was even technically deported several times for looking like a was facilitating an unauthorized relocation across the U.S. border. But hey, It happens. But you know what? That was my family’s problem. I can’t blame mistakes in my application on the law, and misrepresenting one’s immigration status is still not ethical. Look to err is human. In the countless times I crossed the border ahead of the wedding, did I always lay out my exact circumstances? TBH I can’t remember. But I am 100 percent responsible for my mistakes in this area, NOT the law.
It’s crazy to me how pea brained people are. Samuel Sey immigrated legally to Canada from Ghana. Then immigrated after marrying an American to America. He thought he had filled out everything correctly. This was not done purposefully illegally. He thought he had done everything legally! They were all shocked to find out otherwise and are working through it. Ultimately of course he supports ICE and he feels embarrassed and terrible his family is going through this. There was an error with the paperwork he was unaware of. He knows it’s just what has happened but they are trying to quickly work it out so he can come back and be permanently legal!

As a proud immigration enforcement hardliner it has been rather lonely around these parts seeing former self-identified hardliners get soft when it’s their friend facing removal. Watching them obfuscate and outright lie as they wrap themselves in faith is a gross spectacle.

Sleeping Beauty is not a fairy tale, it is an allegory of Germany’s switch in the early modern period through religious reform from a loose confederation of communities to a territorial state. In this essay, I will… 1/923

Soap shoes were peak late-90s chaos. Plastic grind plate locked into the sole, letting you slide rails and ledges like aggressive inline without the skates. Chris Morris (ex-Rollerblade) launched them in 97; first run sold out in weeks. Pros demoed mall handrails, Sonic even wore a custom pair in Adventure 2. WSJ ran a “these could seriously injure you” story that only made them cooler. Then ownership flips, Heelys bought the IP, and they vanished. Pure short-lived grind nostalgia.
