very irritated that this is currently in an overplayed Pfizer commercial -- it's such a good song with a sick opening riff <sobs in lonely white> youtube.com/watch?v=TfY8hR5f…

I am very much looking forward to seeing THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK, and I'm thrilled that people are talking about how great John Turturro is. I feel like he's one of the most slept on, taken for granted great actors working today.

Every year on this platform, Gena Rowland’s life, work and marriage to the renowned director who cast her in most his films is celebrated. Don’t give me this BS that Cassavetes' work has been hidden.

The fact that financial markets are reacting poorly to Lula’s victory is a sure sign that markets are not some amorphous intelligence but simply a bunch of right wing traders who follow the herd. We forget that at our peril.

filming Decker and Metropolitan at the same time was exhausting
This will appeal to like 5 people but I went to the new George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art yesterday and Tim Heidecker was in a Norman Rockwell painting.

Once you realize Matt Johnson routinely pulls Chris D'Elia faces, it can seem like your 2026 was all for nought But! once you realize "Big Jay Oakerson" dresses like he's third string in Sepultura, your 2028 may proudly commence

people complain about this song being anachronistic but if you were a VHS-obsessed indoor kid in the 90s this whole effect is Proustian lol

Not a soul: Everyone else: PoliMath: "OK, I'll bite."
OK, I'll bite. If John Cassavetes is so insanely influential and brilliant, why have I not heard about him until recently? I've been on a side-quest with classic and esoteric movies, mostly through the Criterion collection. I've watched dozens of Criterion closet picks from filmmakers and actors I admire. They pick Cassavetes films ALL THE TIME. Probably more than any other director except Scorsese. I haven't seen a single Cassavetes film. I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about a Cassavetes film outside of those videos. I'm not a slouch on film, I've got a pretty wide spread on what I've seen & what I appreciate. How has Cassavetes slipped through that net so completely for so long?
