"BioWare was repeatedly forced to abandon its strengths (narrative choice, consequences, companions) to chase unprofitable live-service and multiplayer trends, wasting significant resources." That one especially pisses me off
EA employees are speaking out about mismanagement, GenAI push and BioWare’s closure🚀 ✅Employees report that the "do less, better" mantra has simply resulted in handling the same workload with fewer staff. ✅Upper management is heavily promoting generative AI (specifically Claude), telling staff that adoption is mandatory for the future. ✅Workers believe the technology is being pushed to test how drastically EA can cut headcount while maintaining output. BioWare’s Decline & Closure ✅BioWare was repeatedly forced to abandon its strengths (narrative choice, consequences, companions) to chase unprofitable live-service and multiplayer trends, wasting significant resources. ✅Studio leadership grew overly reliant on user experience research (UXR) and fear-driven decision-making, stifling creative risk-taking before the studio's closure. Source: Vertical Slice Disappointed, but definitely not surprised. So much of what’s said reflects very much how many of us felt, as it was quite obvious for the last 10-15 years. Risk-averse development, “do less” mentality, cost-cutting..etc. I feel really bad for the studios and talents that had to be suffocated under EA’s mentality. It’s obvious what kind of people they were ever since they tried to gaslight gamers into thinking single player gaming to be dead.

I don't need to write a complex response to recognize that you're a fucking ignorant, racist idiot who generalizes entire demographics and races to fit your own selective boxes. Therefore, I stand by and triple down on my original statement. The world would be a better place if you were removed from the gene pool.
Replying to @RenOperative_
You can't make a smart response, because you know I'm right. So instead you respond with a clip of a monkey who's entire life is paid for him by other people, when he doesn't provide anything positive to the world. My existence holds more meaning than this nigga ever has.

Truer words have never been spoken. "EA stands for Endangered Artists." #savemasseffect
EA stands for "Endangered Artists" because they want to push AI slop, get rid of the actual human talent, and shutdown beloved game developers and franchises. I for one will not be silent until BioWare is saved, until Mass Effect is saved, until Dragon Age is saved. #SaveMassEffect by signing this petition. It's a call to save the games we love, the studio we love, and one of the most important aspects, the developers who make it happen. c.org/qJnPrQ995b

Absolutely fucking disgusting company
EA employees are describing the recent layoffs (BioWare, Respawn, Motive Studio, Ripple Effect...) as "wildly disruptive," while complaining of "terrible morale" and "generative AI push." In a new report based on anonymous interviews with current and former EA employees, Vertical Slice claims EA workers decry mismanagement and corporate greed after the company was taken private by a Saudi-led investor consortium in a $55 billion deal. "A cold dead place that's slowly decaying as leadership pilfers every last cent." verticalslice.news/ea-worker… ▪️ EA does not clearly disclose who has been cut - even at the studio level or to some managers. This is creating confusion for days or weeks, leaving in-progress work in limbo, and forcing staff to rely on informal "whisper networks" to find out who is gone. The emotional impact is prolonged because people learn about colleagues being laid off gradually over time. ▪️ Affected workers were invited to "zoom calls" with chat disabled and other participants hidden. They had no chance to ask questions or say goodbye to coworkers. Sources called it "very impersonal": "You're getting laid off because you're just numbers on a list." ▪️ Some laid-off employees were given a grace period to apply for open internal positions, but many of those roles require working in-office three days a week. This is not viable for remote workers or those unwilling to relocate. One source called it "a joke" and said: "I didn't even bother looking because I don't want to work at this place anymore." ▪️ Morale has "nosedived." Management's slogan of "do less, better" has meant doing the same amount of work with fewer people. Upper management is enthusiastically pushing generative AI, which is not yet mandated but is being made very difficult to work without. Employees see this as an attempt to keep making games with as few people as possible. ▪️ Sources describe the "C-suite" as out of touch with both game production realities and what players actually want. There is a feeling that "EA executives cannot fail, only be failed." The overriding priority is seen as funneling cash to the new private owners.

Those people would be fools if that's the case. It's almost laid to bare how deeply niche Onimusha is. It brings up a larger conversation because I think it's shocking whenever sales are talked about and people harp on how much it took to make the game and therefore "a game failed." They fail to realize three things: A) Every company has sales expectations and sales targets and they determine things a lot through ROI percentages. B) Sony has always super repackaged games to sell them as much as possible like squeezing blood from stone. They did it for Spider-Man and God of War. I'm 99.9 percent positive the redistribution of Ghost of Yotei Director's Cut has already added to this sales metric. C) Sony has been happy with how Yotei sold. All on public record multiple times.
Some of the same folk commending this will claim Ghost of Yotei underperformed, despite selling 3.3m in a month, outselling COD on PS5 in 2025 (US), and having a “very similar” budget to Ghost of Tsushima ($60m). Because profitable studios/businesses never have layoffs, right?

I forgot to add......Reviews also matter a lot to companies as well when they weigh on something (no brainer obviously). Capcom even said if they get high 80s and 90s they love stuff like this. To them that might matter in the long run over needing sales juggernauts all the time. So Capcom is willing to take a little hit on niche things. Look this stuff up people. It's crazy all the amount of things you can find from these interviews.

Sounds super ambitious to me (almost to the point of impossibility), but if they could've pulled it off I wouldn't be against it. I'm never against ambitious ideas in gaming.
A former BioWare technical director has revealed that the cancelled Mass Effect game's story would have accounted for player decisions made in the original Commander Shepard trilogy. For more info: bit.ly/3WswngD

This guy isn’t gonna bring up how Sony overhired during COVID or their own statements about strategic “refocusing” across the board. I promise you…he won’t. And since you want to argue that Ghost of Yotei wasn’t a seller, let’s talk about how this industry actually works. PlayStation themselves have said that Ghost of Yotei was outperforming Ghost of Tsushima in sales over the equivalent period after launch. So where exactly does that leave your argument that the game wasn’t selling? It came from the horse's mouth: videogameschronicle.com/news… Now, let’s look at another example. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sold around 16 million copies, and this was well before Wolverine was even out. Yet Insomniac still got hit with layoffs: reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/1p… reddit.com/r/SpidermanPS4/co… Regardless of your “subjective feelings” about Spider-Man 2, the game was critically acclaimed, earning a 90 on Metacritic, and sold extremely well. Here’s the point you keep missing: a game can sell well, and a studio can still experience layoffs. Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. Commercial success doesn’t guarantee job security, and layoffs alone don’t prove that a game underperformed. Sony can be happy with Ghost of Yotei’s sales while still making economic adjustments across its various divisions. Both things can be true at once. You can sell millions of copies and still have people lose their jobs. That’s the reality YOU conveniently keep overlooking. 😂🫵
you mean this hecking wholesome quirkchungus didn't translate to sales???????

I'll think for sources let's use a Circana/NPD group link. I trust them more than Alinea if Sony actually has to submit some kind of numbers for data analysis to the NPD. And people corroborated that Yotei did fine. Even with the controversy (which shows that didn't tank it). kotaku.com/ghost-yotei-septe…

Yeah, I think it ultimately comes down to Peacock, or negotiations may still be underway with Horror Inc. and the Jason Universe team. I imagine it's not a straightforward process and may take longer to work out than something like the Carrie announcement. We just have to be patient and see how things unfold. I think it's very likely to happen, and they'd be fools not to capitalize on the opportunity.
‘CRYSTAL LAKE’ hit 1.3 BILLION minutes watched in its first 11 days, according to NBCUniversal. That makes it Peacock’s fourth-biggest scripted original debut. Is a Season 2 announcement next? No renewal yet, but these numbers are encouraging. [dreadcentral.com/streaming-h…]

I liked the game, but it launched in September. A month that was crowded with wall to wall new releases like Wolverine, Control Resonant, and Onimusha. Then everyone is about to migrate to GTA6. To me it felt like Townfall and Control got buried. I do want to platinum and review the game after all the gaming burnout is over with.
Not to be negative but does it feel like Silent Hill Townfall sorta just came and went without much impact? Like I really enjoyed the game but just a month after release I don't see really any fan theories, art, or general discussion like silent Hill f or 2 remake had :(

Things get easier when you start saying, “I don’t give a fuck about you or your opinions” to people who try to interfere with your fun. Once I started doing that more often, people started fucking with me less. And if that doesn’t work, mute, ignore, or block them. You’re always entitled to protect your peace however you see fit.
I'm excited but then i realize we'll have to deal with the "soulless remake" crowd
