Violence against women is one of the oldest and most persistent health problems, yet least acted upon. An estimated 840 million women globally – 1 in 3 women – have faced violence at least once in their lifetime including 263 million who have suffered sexual violence. Behind every statistic is a woman or girl whose life has been forever altered. We urge governments, law makers, policy makers, families, communities, and health systems to work together to make sure women and girls are empowered and safe everywhere. This is prerequisite for peace, development and health. who.int/news/item/19-11-2025…

FGM serves as the genesis of gender-based violence, disproportionately affecting women/girls and increasing their vulnerability to other forms of GBV. Investing resources in the response/prevention of #FGM is crucial in combating various forms of GBV. #MenEndFGM #16DaysOfActivism

As we come near to #GirlSummitUg, we must remember that girls still face multiple vulnerabilities that inhibit their ability to access a basic education; risk of #ChildMarriage, #EarlyPregnancy, #GBV, #FGM, sexual exploitation and child labour.
