היום, לפני 31 שנה, נרצח ראש הממשלה והרמטכ"ל לשעבר, יצחק רבין ז"ל.
רצח רבין מהווה תזכורת לאומית כבדה לכולנו: אלימות אינה מפציעה בוקר אחד, משום מקום. היא תוצאה של הליכי הסתה, שלהוב ופילוג מתמשכים ומאורגנים.
הימים ימים גורליים לישראל ולדמוקרטיה הישראלית. בימים האחרונים אנו עומדים מול ניסיון מאורגן של ראש הממשלה היוצא ומפלגתו לחבל בדמוקרטיה הישראלית, ללבות אלימות ברחובות ישראל, להתיר את דמם של נבחרי ציבור ולפרק ברמה העמוקה ביותר את רשויות השלטון והחוק בישראל.
האדם שחודש לפני רצח רבין תלש את הסמל ממכוניתו ואמר "כמו שהגענו לסמל הזה, אנחנו יכולים להגיע לרבין", הוא היום השר לביטחון לאומי (היוצא). אותו האדם, שאמון על משטרת ישראל וביטחון הפנים, קרא הבוקר לחקירתם במרתפי השב"כ של ראשי מפלגות בישראל – בניגוד למנהל תקין, בניגוד לחוק.
לא נאפשר לגרור את מדינת ישראל לתהום חשוכה שנמצאת הרחק מחוץ לגבולות כללי המשחק הדמוקרטיים. נעמוד מול הניסיונות לפרום את הסיפור הישראלי המשותף ולקרוע את החברה הישראלית מבפנים.
אני מתכוון לעמוד מול ניסיונות אלו. בלי למצמץ. כי עתידה של ישראל והדמוקרטיה הישראלית נמצא על הכף.
נשמור על הדמוקרטיה מכל משמר - למען כל אזרחי ישראל, לא משנה למי הצביעו ובמי הם תומכים. בין אם תמכו בי ובין אם תמכו בהנהגה הנוכחית. כך ראוי שהנהגה אחראית ודמוקרטית תפעל.
היום, אני מבקש לזכור את מנהיגותו של רבין ולחרוט אותה לנגד עיננו: מול האלימות, ההסתה וכרסום יסודות הדמוקרטיה נעמוד איתן, ללא מורא.

אני אומר כאן בבירור לראשי הגופים הללו - המשטרה, השב״כ והמוסד - אתם חייבים להיות נאמנים לחוק ולמדינת ישראל. לא לראש ממשלה, לא למפלגה ולא לשום אינטרס פוליטי.
