Fun fact, the National Socialist Ahnenerbe actually contributed to the preservation of rune singer culture, along with other aspects of Finnish culture like meeting with the last authentic Finnish witch, Miron-Aku. If you want to read more about it, I translated a book written by one of the Finnish researchers attached to the Ahnenerbe, Yrjö von Grönhagen, where he documents all this: archive.org/details/finnish-… Below is the chapter discussing the rune singers and him meeting the Schemeikka clan.

Jussi Huovinen was the last of the Karelian runic singers. He was the final remaining oral storyteller in these unbroken lines of fathers and sons who, for thousands of years, passed down Baltic Finnic history and legend to the next generation. When he passed away in 2017, a living tradition died with him. Runic singers still exist, and more and more young people are becoming interested in the craft, but the original unbroken lines of poets have gone out, never to return.
