On @Skilling's last day, I would also like to extend my sincere congratulations to Tom for an epic career that helped send hundreds if not thousands of younger students into the sciences and meteorology (I was but one of them). I worked one semester as an intern (along with @JaredGuyer) and @billyweather many many years ago (spring 1998 I believe, while at @ValpoWeather).
Almost a different world compared to now, from researching stats on an old telnet/gopher-connected workstation, handling the giant difax model charts coming in (Eta, NGM, the old AVN, and the timeless ECMWF). Not to mention assisting daily with Tom's second love, the Chicago Tribune Weather page, which was always cut out and posted on the walls in the weather office.
I don't really have any special stories, but I can confirm that Tom was always as generous and kind-hearted in-person as you see on TV and for that I truly thank him.

The last EF5 tornado to officially hit the United States struck Moore, Oklahoma on 5/20/13.
And, for the last ten years, I believed that this storm's intensity could be attributed to an outflow boundary.

VIL core collapsed about 2 miles to our west (west Norman)....ended up with maybe 0.50" hail at best (mostly marbles).
