.@Cornell still refuses to hire even one M.D. gynecologist to serve its 13,000 female students.
@cornellsun published my encounters with excruciating pain and sexism while seeking healthcare at Cornell Health for chronic vaginal pain.

Invisible illnesses often make it difficult for us to say we're disabled. No matter how we present or what we face every day, we need to remember it's okay to accept this aspect of our lives and ask for help.

Really wild after all of these years writing and reading about maternal health that it’s considered a health innovation to save Black mothers from dying of childbirth.
Just save Black mothers. Just listen to Black mothers when they say something is wrong.
Normalizing masks.
Safer childbirth for Black mothers.
mRNA vaccines for cancers.
Robot surgeons?

I have a chronic disease: endometriosis. I've had to have surgeries, I've been on and off hormones to suppress my periods - it has caused me so much pain and infertility which I've been battling for years and YEARS.

Hi disabled and/or chronically ill friends,
What's something that a doctor has done to help you have a good appointment?

Understand that police violence is a #reproductivejustice issue. It is a #birthjustice issue. It is a #humanrights issue. Mothering a Black child under the constant threat of state sanctioned violence means that when I see #DaunteWright I see my child. Why don’t you? #BMHW21

Frankly, there needs to be dedicated education for OBGYN residents, including learning the exam. And also to consistently ask about pain when women have urinary sc so they don’t get Kegel advice if they might be hypertonic.

Honestly, this is probably 50% of the reason I am on social media. It’s the most powerful tool we have to raise awareness in and out of academia so this guidance can find its way into our classrooms and clinics

Pelvic floor PT is so incredibly effective for this. Now how do we educate more providers to be able to accurately diagnose myofascial pelvic pain and not keep treating it as a UTI?

I often think I've got this "acceptance" thing down with regards to pain.
And then other times I'm just punched by the (re-)realization that I could feel like this forever, might never *not hurt* ever again, and it... well, it hurts, but in a raw, scary, different way.
Again.

Protruding labia minora are not caused by aging, male hormones, sexual activity, or masturbation.
So why do so many doctors publish that they are, despite no supporting evidence?
What can we do to get these false claims removed from medical journals and textbooks?

This #DisabilityDayofMourning, remember the disabled people killed by their caregivers; the disabled people killed by restraint; the disabled people killed by police brutality; the disabled people lost to COVID; all those disabled people killed by a violently ableist society.
