Guys, our pressure on EA is working. Don’t give them a chance to divide us—let’s keep going! Fill their comment sections with our hashtag, #SaveMassEffect. By tomorrow, we’ll push the petition past 290,000 signatures—we’re almost there! And by the 7th, we’ll definitely hit over 300,000. We have plenty of PR moves planned, so keep spreading the word—most importantly, don’t stop! Hold the line and share the petition everywhere you can, across all social media platforms. Support one another. Stay strong and don’t give in to despair. Talk soon! change.org/p/savemasseffect #MassEffectIsAlive

1/ XREAL AURA is the most underrated hardware launch this week. It's not a headset. It's glasses that put Android XR in front of your eyes — with Gemini riding along. 9 things it can do 🧵 Bookmark this.

So excited for the launch of the XREAL AURA!  You can plug other devices into it and have that screen side-by-side with your Android XR windows. That means you can get help from Gemini with whatever is happening on those screens. Congrats to XREAL on such a great device! For a limited time, it's $1099. Available in US, Canada, and Korea, and starting Nov 2 in Japan.

Baiscally saying brain cancer is really shitty *hopefully, like many early-stage lab discoveries, this leads to a viable application sooner than later
According to a detailed study published in the scientific journal Autophagy, investigators at Goethe University Frankfurt, along with their collaborative institutional partners, successfully mapped this anti-tumor activity to an acute stress response triggered inside the endoplasmic reticulum, which functions as the internal cellular network responsible for synthesizing and processing vital proteins. Under normal biological conditions, eukaryotic cells utilize a specialized recycling pathway known as macroautophagy to dismantle and consume their own damaged components, a survival mechanism that frequently shields malignant tumors from environmental stress and standard chemotherapy. However, when specific cellular pathways are forced into extreme overactivation, this internal recycling system can pivot from a protective routine into an active mechanism of programmed cell death. The molecular mechanism occurs because loperamide administration significantly upregulates the operational expression of ATF4, a specific transcription factor that governs how a cell mitigates internal metabolic stress. The escalation of this protein subsequently forces the activation of reticulophagy, a highly selective form of autophagy that systematically breaks down the structural integrity of the endoplasmic reticulum network. Through advanced microscopic imaging, researchers directly observed extensive segments of this critical protein network being targeted and completely engulfed by the cellular recycling infrastructure. To validate these precise findings, scientists successfully knocked out the expression of the ATF4 gene, which subsequently neutralized the drug-induced autophagic cascade and significantly preserved the survival of the tumor cultures. Despite these promising in vitro results, translating this cellular destruction into a viable clinical treatment presents severe pharmacological hurdles, primarily due to the physiological barriers protecting the central nervous system. Standard oral doses of loperamide are chemically restricted from entering the brain because the compound is actively blocked by the blood-brain barrier, and medical professionals have not yet determined if therapeutically effective concentrations can ever be safely achieved in human patients. Deliberately exceeding the established over-the-counter dosage of loperamide is extremely hazardous, as excessive accumulation carries a documented risk of inducing fatal cardiac arrhythmias. Ultimately, these laboratory findings serve to expose a novel molecular vulnerability within aggressive glioblastoma lines, paving the way for future therapeutic designs that might utilize alternative compounds or advanced targeted delivery systems to exploit the exact same stress pathway. [Citation: Zielke, S., et al. "ATF4 links ER stress with reticulophagy in glioblastoma cells." Autophagy, 2021. DOI: 10.1080/15548627.2020.1827780]

I've said this before: the majority of people who use AI (and I'm not talking about programmers or people who actually have to constantly run agentic tasks at desk or other truly token-hungry stuff like that, but just the typical person using ChatGPT as a replacement for Google) could simply download an open-source model, run it locally on their home PC, and get a perfectly acceptable result. Altman is mortally afraid of the average AI user figuring that out.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says it’s “quite terrible” that people have so much DRAM sitting in their own PCs instead of being used in data centers. “Everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer. And be used 5% of the time,” He argues that cloud data centers should make better use of limited memory supplies instead of people running AI models locally.
