I've said this before: the majority of people who use AI (and I'm not talking about programmers or people who actually have to constantly run agentic tasks at desk or other truly token-hungry stuff like that, but just the typical person using ChatGPT as a replacement for Google) could simply download an open-source model, run it locally on their home PC, and get a perfectly acceptable result. Altman is mortally afraid of the average AI user figuring that out.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says itโs โquite terribleโ that people have so much DRAM sitting in their own PCs instead of being used in data centers.
