I believe he received most of those things before his death in 2012, as well as the Russian medal for the Murmansk veterans. I have not done the DD214s which I intend to. I have many of his records as well as photos from Iran, the Nazi surrender in Norway, North Africa and, U.K.

Friends, this is a seafaring song about a merchant vessel, Cannery Row, Monterey, and decisions with consequences. The Wind and the Waves, by @mamilton youtu.be/C5LKaadZHAI?si=b1mF…

No one knew this better than WWII Merchant Marine veterans like my late father. We had to get aged mariners out of mothballs for the Gulf War as well as ships. One of his friends, long retired disappeared for months and it turned out he had gone back to the Persian Gulf.
If you aren’t following @lawofsea then you are doing X wrong,

Uncle Sam Needs You, Now! 🫵 1944 newsreel: Capt. Harry H. Dreany urgently calls for men aged 17 to 50 to join the U.S. Maritime Service. Training, loading and convoy footage from the ships that kept WWII supplied. Would you have answered? 👇 #WW2 #History #MerchantMarine

Some of those merchant ships were such bad rust buckets that just firing the main gun would break things near gun mount. Dad told me a few stories but I'm sure it had to effect their thinking every time they saw a tin can or flat top sail by. He was a Signalman and proud of it.

“A seafarer who sails into a war zone under state orders, on a ship that the enemy is trying to sink, has participated in that war. However, most countries still do not recognize that person as a veteran.” 🎯

Wife's Father (RIP) has Mariner's ID from Pacific Theater Service. Thanks for the Medal Info. Will pass it on to Our Daughter (His Grand Daughter.) when/If Awarded. I was a USMMA Midshipman, then a Ship's Engineer during Vietnam Years, 1973-1976. Was in Zone multiple times..

xitter.gq/USMMWWII/status/211377… Sadly, scenes like this were all too common in 1942 of the US coasts. The U-boat war was taking a terrible toll on US shipping, and this is an example of just one of those ships lost.
The SS Tiger (sinking) and under tow by the tug Relief after being torpedoed by U-754 on April 1, 1942. Under tow near Cape Henry, VA. Tiger, originally built as a freighter, was torpedoed by the German submarine U-754 just after midnight on 1 April 1942, after she had reduced speed to pick up a pilot before entering Chesapeake Bay. She sank in shallow water during salvage efforts on 2 April 1942. shipscribe.com/usnaux/ww1/sh…

Today is the 229th anniversary of the launch of USS Constitution, the ship America calls Old Ironsides. On October 21, 1797, she slid into Boston Harbor as one of the first six ships of the United States Navy. In the War of 1812, British cannonballs bounced off her thick oak hull and sailors swore her sides were made of iron. The name stuck. She is still a commissioned U.S. Navy ship today, crewed by active-duty sailors, and the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world.

If you go to this website, it will tell you everything you need to know about the US merchant marine. They’re even featured at the World War II museum in New Orleans. Several of the interviews are from people that I have met in the past working with World War II veterans usmm.org/infomm.pdf

It was this guy. Then the Legacy Media wanted to hide this photo and his motive.
Elon Musk fired this man for attacking a woman who stepped on his prayer rug. Three months later, Ndiaga Diagne murdered three innocent people in downtown Austin. The warning signs were right there and Tesla acted on them. Our immigration system never did. Screen who we let in, or keep burying Americans.

It is deeply poignant to look back at these specific historical dates and remember the staggering human cost borne by merchant mariners, making posts like this so vital for keeping their silent sacrifices alive.

We were at war even though the U.S. didn’t want to admit it. It would take the tragedy of Pearl Harbor to send that message home to the American people.
#OTD 19 Oct 1941 the unarmed Lehigh was hit on the starboard side by one torpedo from U-126 about 82 miles west of Freetown. Lehigh was sunk 49 days before war was officially declared against the USA by the Axis, despite the American markings on the ship, which were clearly visible at the time of the attack. Why U.S. Shipbuilding Is Failing the American Merchant Marine 🚢The Global Production Imbalance: Why China, South Korea, and Japan control 94% of global shipbuilding while the U.S. commercial sector builds virtually zero large deep-draft cargo ships. 🚢The Golden Fleet & 30-Year Navy Plan: An analysis of the Navy’s FY2027 plan, the massive push for Medium Unmanned Surface Vessels (MUSVs), and where actual fleet numbers are coming from. 🚢Workboats vs. True Ships: Examining the $1.2B contracts awarded to Louisiana yards for autonomous vessels like Saronic’s Marauder—and why building 150-foot aluminum hulls does not solve America's deep-water sealift crisis. 🚢New Yards & Expansion Projects: Breaking down Saronic’s Port Alpha in Brownsville, Anduril’s Sparrows Point facility in Baltimore, and the modernization of Gulf Copper Shipyard in Texas for Arctic Security Cutters. 🚢The "Finland Model" & Foreign Yards: How the U.S. is turning to allied overseas builders for initial construction phases, and the risks of trying to adapt foreign designs to U.S. military standards. 🚢Commercial Milestones: Matson’s christening of the LNG-powered Makua at Philly Shipyard and why a handful of specialized Jones Act container ships is not enough to maintain a viable industrial base. 🚢The 1980s Trap: How Secretary John Lehman’s 600-ship Navy and the end of Construction Differential Subsidies (CDS) gutted commercial yards 40 years ago—and why relying solely on defense contracts leaves American maritime power vulnerable.
