Apple will start checking anything you share through a public iCloud link 🙅‍♂️ Apple’s own docs already say those shares aren’t end-to-end encrypted, so it already held the keys. This new update just gives the company something to do with your shared links. According to Apple’s support page, published 3 November, anything shared with Anyone with the Link will be checked for harmful content from iOS 27.3. The page doesn’t define harmful, which leaves Apple plenty of room to decide as it goes. If you still use iCloud, turn on Advanced Data Protection for end-to-end encryption. It won’t cover anything you share through Anyone with the Link though, since Apple’s docs exclude those shares. So, actually, if you share files through public iCloud links, might be time to move out.

‼️ Apple will check every photo and file shared through a public iCloud link for harmful content, and can disable the accounts behind it. From iOS 27.3, Apple may delete flagged items and, "if necessary", bring in law enforcement. It does not say what counts as harmful.

If this is the case, @Firefox, why don't you do more by default? Why don't you block most tracking content by default? Or block tracking query parameters? Or send the Global Privacy Control header? If you really want to protect your users, you need to do more. Privacy by default is the way.

People who’s least favorite character in the game is Steve only because he’s the best and poorly designed are weak. You can hate him, sure, but your least favorite you have to have a personal beef with. No logic, only hatred.
