"The introduction of rent ceilings exacerbated the housing shortage. As a result, waiting lists grew longer, and people looking for housing had to spend more time searching for a dwelling. If they [...] had no temporary accommodation while searching, [...] they turned to the unregulated segment of the market. This increased demand for unregulated dwellings and, consequently, their rents."

But… But… I thought GDP was just a social construct?
What is life like at different levels of GDP per capita? In this new chart I visualised it for 12 different dimensions.

There's a leftist/academic thing to constantly emphasize both the moral brutality of capitalist growth in the US and the surprising growth under brutal communism in China. I think it's good to see the full picture of reality, but the emphasis is …. notable. Leftists/academics are never tweeting about how “did you know America’s economic growth was surprisingly robust when child labor was legal?”

It's true both Mao and Stalin polled very well. In fact, very few people gave an unfavorable opinion of them in public more than once.
Replying to @Biyombonesaw
Now, both Mao and Stalin were incredibly powerful leaders. But that power was a result of their popularity both within the party and with the people. Their proclamations and published articles carried incredible influence and affected how the committees voted

The Department of Education was created in 1979.
Middle schoolers can't read. High schoolers can't write an essay. College students can't spot propaganda. Adults can't spot AI images. But yeah, let's abolish the Department of Education.

Only Israeli citizens can vote in Israeli elections, and Palestinians are NOT Israeli citizens. Palestinians in East Jerusalem were offered the opportunity to obtain Israeli citizenship. They declined. Gazans are (AGAIN) NOT Israeli citizens. And the last time they voted in Palestinian legislative elections was in 2006, when Hamas, a designated terrorist organization, won. It's really not that complicated.
Israeli "democracy": - 500,000 West Bank settlers can vote, but not the 3M Palestinians under occupation - 230,000 Israelis in occupied East Jerusalem can vote, but not the 350,000 Palestinians under their rule - The fewer than 2M Palestinians left in occupied Gaza cannot vote

The world No. 1 in women's tennis, Aryna Sabalenka, unleashes a devastating and unfiltered statement: "It's vital to protect fairness. Biologically, men are much stronger than women. It's not fair. It's not equality. It's not women's sports if we let biological men compete against us." She sides with Sophie Cunningham and sends a clear message: women are not going to keep staying silent while they steal our titles, podiums, and opportunities from us.

Left-NIMBYISM is much funnier. Yeah, i'm a socialist, except in the case of housing, where I believe in zealously protecting the rights of property owners to form a cartel at the expense of the poor. Let's build some parking lots in city centers for suburbanites to park in!
“Left-YIMBYism” is one of the funniest things I’ve seen people talk themselves into. Like yeah, I’m a socialist except in the case of housing where I believe in supply-side economics and deregulation. Let’s bulldoze some section 8 housing and sell it to developers

You absolute midwit. Congrats on repeating the Wikipedia "Nazis were far-right, end of story" summary you absorbed between TikToks. Yes, the Nazis crushed independent unions, jailed and murdered communists and social democrats, and Hitler liquidated the Strasserite "left" wing of his own party in the Night of the Long Knives. That part is not in dispute. They were not Marxist class-struggle socialists. They hated Bolshevism as a Jewish plot and treated international socialism as the main enemy. Fine. What your middle-school history class skipped is that they still ran a National *Socialist* state: private property existed only as long as it served the Führer’s racial and war goals, wages and prices were controlled, industry was cartelized under state direction, profit was subordinated to the party, and the economy was planned for autarky and rearmament. That is not free-market capitalism, liberal conservatism, or classical right-wing economics. It is the same family of state-directed, anti-liberal, collectivist economics practiced by every other fascist and "national socialist" regime. The name was not a prank; the 25-point program and the early rhetoric were full of anti-capitalist planks precisely because they were competing with the actual socialists for working-class support. Your North Korea comparison is the usual gotcha and it is only half-clever. Yes, names can lie. But the NSDAP did not merely call itself socialist while secretly running a Rothschild hedge fund. They nationalized, directed, rationed, and regimented. The difference from Soviet socialism was mainly that the Nazis kept the owners as managers under party orders instead of shooting them all and installing commissars. Both systems produced shortages, secret police, and mass graves; one just had better uniforms and Wagner. Elon pointing out the obvious—that "National Socialist" is not an ironic branding exercise and that the regime was economically left of any classical liberal or conservative—does not make him a moron. It makes him less obedient to the post-1945 academic consensus that insists every totalitarian who isn’t a full Marxist must be filed under "far-right" so the left never has to share the body count. Money didn’t buy him a brain; it just bought him a platform where he doesn’t have to pretend your selective reading of 1930s Germany is the complete picture. Keep yelling "far-right fascists" while ignoring the actual economic policies and the party’s own name. It is the historical equivalent of covering your ears and shouting.

Can we please stop this nonsense already? This is absolutely sickening. Yes, only a minority of Arday's scholarship looks outright fraudulent and needs to be retracted. And I understand why lefty anti-racism activists may still mistake that for vindication. But academics who still defend Arday--after all the blatant lies available to anyone who wants to see them--are doing much more harm to higher ed than the man himself ever did.

The solution is to stop caring what other people's place in society is relative to yours. I am and will always be "behind" people who inherited 8 figs in their 20s. IDGAF
We are both 35 years old I have $0 and you have $200,000 Moving forward you invest $0 and I start investing $1,000 a month every single month We each get a 8% average return I will never catch up to you

Montaigne once said that he hoped death found him planting his cabbages, and there's immense wisdom in that: the only way to live without regret is to do things so intrinsically meaningful that even if rudely interrupted by death you would not think you had wasted your time
