Systemic underinvestment in young kids is detrimental to kids, their parents, and family units writ large. Not to mention the comparative disadvantage it puts the US at long term. If our 2 MD household can barely figure it out, it’s too hard. theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…

The fact that @umichmedicine did not think this was a problem is appalling. Abortion is healthcare. Full stop. Diversity of thought is one thing but advocacy counter to recs of @acog and @AmerMedicalAssn is wrong and dangerous, esp in this forum.

The Supreme Court ruling today will hurt women. Full stop.
You can never ban abortion, you can only ban safe abortions. Read that again.
Amazing work by @DimitriosMoris, the only full professor among the @DukeSurgRes. Well deserved!
Excited to receive the best publication award in @DukeSurgery for our publication in @JAMA_current. Many thanks to my mentor Dr. Pappas and the @DukeSurgRes program leadership Drs Kirk, @JMigaly,@LisaTracyMD for the opportunity to train at the best program in the country.

via @NYTimes “But rather than seeing the climate challenge as overwhelming or hopeless, experts said, we should treat it as a call to action.” A good morning to remember that optimism allows action. nytimes.com/2022/04/03/brief…

So sad to hear of passing of @PIH founder Paul Farmer, still remember his words about pathologies of power and think of them often in my own career as a surgeon in training. We lost a giant today.

Truly amazing that this was published as such.
To search for, find, and then interpret the association between a metric of individual financial security and job performance as follows is truly something. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/article…

Huge news! A sensible policy change to preserve training while also allowing for life events.

A well articulated position. Context changes everything.
For past 18 mths, my personal Covid choices (very cautious) were driven by prospects of ⬇risk in future, mostly via vaccines. My current view is that we're nearing a new normal, at least for next few yrs. It drives me to choices on travel, dining, etc that feel right, long-term.
Great to be part of this team. Amazing work by @SJKesseli with this very challenging but relevant model!
The latest from the Duke Ex Vivo Organ Lab out now in @HepCommJournal! doi.org/10.1002/hep4.1734 Had a blast working on this with Jared Gloria @sehalpern5 Dimitrios Moris @RSchmitz21 @bshaw415 @mghartwigmd, @drewbarbz and others!

Replying to @VascularSVS
@VascularSVS I worry that you are using the word “value” inappropriately here. Classically, value=quality/cost. What you are reporting here are revenues, which may be valuable to hosp but is not value itself. E.g. may get paid to make a fistula that is never used.
The Society for Vascular Surgery Valuation Work Group Publishes New Report Highlighting the Value of Vascular Surgeons to the Health Care System. Read the story from the SVS here: ow.ly/YfKE50DBQgq
