Be careful of fake job interviews out there; recruitment-themed social engineering is on a wave. It was one of the critical strategies in how Binance got hacked.

Two interesting things I discovered this week are:
1. That you can get genuine court affidavits online from the Nigerian Federal High Court. A genuine one, not the ones those roadside people give you.
The website has all sorts of affidavits, even ones I didn't know existed.
2. The National Population Commission has a working portal. You can register your newborn online and get a certified birth certificate that is accepted worldwide.
You can do all these things without any bureaucracy.

Until you encounter some type of problems, you never truly appreciate the ingenuity being the corresponding solution(s).
What ambient control device are you using?
TIL there's a name for a whole category of gadgets I've known for a long time without connecting the dots: "Ambient Control Devices".
Nest Hub, Stream Deck, MX Keypad, etc.: different products, same idea: tech that sits on the edge of your attention instead of asking for it.

This is something I used to ask myself until I realised that we live in a low-trust society.
It's often easier to scam Westerners precisely because they come from high-trust societies, and we mistake that trust for stupidity.
Take the US, for example. You can print your own check, deposit a check by simply taking a picture with your banking app, and even start using some of the money before the check has fully cleared. You don't even have to visit a bank.
Compare that with most parts of Africa, where something as simple as forgetting your banking app password can mean physically visiting a bank branch with all your identification documents.
We have become so accustomed to suspicion and distrust that we mistake our cunningness for intelligence and other people's trust for foolishness.
We think we are smarter because we are harder to fool, without realising that we have built societies where nobody trusts anybody.
Really great article from Optiver. It expanded my view of what Postgres is capable of, especially using it to track data changes in real time without adding extra tools. Nice to see Postgres pushed beyond the usual.

Fun read from GitHub eng blog.
The Stargazers API was initially designed for one purpose but largely used for something else. Interesting to see how they listened and built for this informal use case, making the platform better and the community happy.

Thursday was my last day at Univrses.
4+ years, big milestones, and the best team I could ask for. The high-trust culture taught me what real product ownership looks like.
Grateful to everyone I worked with. Leaving was tough, but I’m excited to share what’s next soon 🥳
Don’t just put in the work, own the work!
Really great article, please read.
I sense chaos ahead. The software development lifecycle is more concentrated than ever. Only a handful of companies are building foundational models, but huge and expanding ecosystems of layers are built around them, finding their way into almost everything...
I needed to generate custom receipts over the past couple of months but couldn't find a tool that worked exactly how I wanted, so I built one.
