Being evidence-based does not mean cherry-picking what suits your interest. Being evidence-based requires looking at the TOTALITY of the evidence available on a topic to come to a conclusion.

This is a brilliant, short, video on how N95s work - it really helped me to understand what they actually do and that it's not simply if a particle is too small or too big. youtube.com/watch?v=vBJpvdZX…

Key paper from @UCSF & @czbiohub answers nose vs. throat swab rapid test question: BinaxNOW was 98% sensitive w/ nasal swab; 49% sensitive w/ throat.(Gold standard=PCR w/ Ct<30, ie, infectious.) So def do nose, don't do throat alone, & little gain w/ both.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Another week with lots of news, but here is the key takeaway: The vaccines continue to work, especially at preventing severe outcomes. While cases in lower-vaccinated states have decreased dramatically, the gap in death rates has widened. Thread on data: xitter.gq/ashishkjha/status/1441…
The southern surge is slowing And cases in some Northern states rising So it is all seasonal? Are vaccines working? Let's look at data Today the 10 LEAST vaccinated states had 2X the cases 3X the hospitalizations 5X the deaths compared to 10 most vaccinated states Thread

I'm in a SM Covid-19 parenting group. A mom mentioned her child had covid and asked how long her child should stay home from school. The answers ranged from 24 hrs to 7 days. No one replied with the correct answer. We like to think ppl have enough info and know what to do.

Finally, some data from Israel on vaccine effectiveness. Before we start, a couple of comments: 1. Almost all new infections in Israel are with the delta variant. 2. We don’t believe confirmed cases count since there are complicated incentives for testings.

Thread on MOLNUPIRAVIR. First, what is this medication? First we should remember, there is not a highly effective outpatient oral treatment for COVID yet. There are tantalizing glimpses into other meds but they are still in clinical trials. So, let's explore this one.
