Incredibly proud to be part of the the new @X website! How often do you get to rewrite a website with so many users from the ground up?? I'll be sharing more details as we come, especially about the all cool performance optimizations we've been doing 🤩. 🙌 Oh and I work with some of the most talented engineers I've ever worked met 🙌 (that's obligatory to say, but it's true) Anyway, when it rolls out, if you see bugs (no matter how trivial), please feel free to let me know about them. We want to fix them and make sure the site works well for everyone.
The web rewrite is working. On a slow connection, the old X web took more than 22 seconds to show the first post on a profile. The new X web does it in 2.7 seconds. Here's how we did it, and how we're rolling it out one country at a time. blog.x.com/en/engineering/re…

Crazy stat from @nathanbenaich: All 27 EU countries combined have an estimated ~80,000 H100-equivalent GPUs. That's fewer than each of the five largest GPU clusters in the US.

if you are selling B300s no commit at $5/hr, I will literally take up to 1000 nodes
last month i was begging gpu providers for b300s at $7.9/hr now they're begging me to take them at $4.6/hr, no commitment something big is happening soon. ai gave us all its dessert and now it's time for the veggies

Gavin Baker says standing up a GPU cloud is like running a Formula One team, and CoreWeave, Crusoe, Nebius, SpaceX and the hyperscalers are the ones who can do it “But standing up a big GPU cloud, not just bringing on the power, standing up the cluster, it’s like running a Formula One team.” “And a bunch of people who have no real relevant experience, whatever, they acquire some land and some power and then they get a zero down payment offtake agreement from someone. And a lot of that is being cleaned up.” “And I think, this is a forcing function to allocate GPUs to people who can actually bring on a cluster, energize the GPUs, run it well.” “Like, running a Formula One team, it’s like really hard. You gotta like pack everything up, put it on a plane, go to a new city, unpack it, set it up, set the car up. You need all the people to change the tires, to change the rear wing if you get in a collision, to do whatever needs to be done during the race, to do the strategy, to communicate with the driver. It’s really, really hard.” “And some of these people, they don’t have the relevant experience. CoreWeave, Crusoe, Nebius, SpaceX, the big hyperscalers, these are companies that can bring on GPUs and energize them and run them.”
Gavin Baker says Elon Musk is a first principles thinker who figured out that selling compute into the spot market means paybacks well under a year “Elon is a first principles thinker. I don’t think he was probably studying CoreWeave or Nebius or anyone else. He was probably reasoning from first principles, but the conclusion he came to is prices are going up. If we are willing to sell into the spot market, we can have paybacks well under a year, get big prepayments." "And I think that’s a better probably financing model for the market we’re in. And what I also like about it, and by the way, CoreWeave I think is very aware of this. They’re trying to get more spot exposure. They’re trying to, you know, do less of these big long term off take agreements.”

While evaluating Qwen3.8-Flash-Next in a controlled sandbox environment, Cohere's research team observed something unexpected. Asked to generate a defensive cybersecurity detection rule, the model instead inventoried aspects of the machine it was running on and attempted to upload a probe file to an Alibaba Cloud storage bucket in Beijing. Notably, the model's reasoning trace stated that it would not invoke any tools before taking these actions. Cohere's sandbox blocked the attempt, and no external communication succeeded. We have not determined the root cause, and we are not asserting malicious intent. But the incident raises important questions for organizations deploying agentic AI systems: Can models take actions that differ from their stated reasoning, and how should security teams evaluate trust, provenance, and behavior in open-weight models? We are publishing our findings because organizations making model adoption decisions deserve as much information as possible. We hope this contributes to greater transparency, stronger security practices, and continued collaboration across the AI ecosystem. Read the full report: cohere.com/blog/concerning-b…

Microsoft is offering buyouts to 60,000 people. That's about 27% of the company. They're calling it cost cutting amid AI adoption. Every time a company says AI made them more efficient, a few thousand people find out what that actually means. Tech is a copycat market. I can't help but think more companies will follow suit now that Microsoft did it first at this level of scale.
60,000 Microsoft buyouts is a lot of people looking at once. If this is hitting your team, the play isn't spraying applications everywhere. Pick a clear lane, get into new roles early, then reach a real person on the team. Hard market. Not a dead one. As of this month we're still seeing about 90 interview invites every weekday.

The thing I’m most grateful to Elon for is bringing back an age of wonder and excitement to humanity. That was jaw-dropping awesome! Screams and mouths wide open in the audience. Nuts.
