NEW: On Friday, dockworkers at 111 ports in 22 countries and regions on five continents will stop work in a coordinated strike against war, according to the most recent information from the organizing unions.
More than 25 dockworkers’ unions have now signed on, from Marseille to Mumbai, Hamburg to Montevideo, Melbourne to Oakland. Days ago the count stood at about 100 ports in 17 countries, and that figure doesn’t include the dozens of unions in other sectors that have pledged support. Their demand is simple: no weapons and no military cargo through their ports. Nearly everything the world ships passes through the docks, and without the workers who load and unload it, nothing moves.
In France, the main dockers’ union says the country’s ports will be 95% shut. Italy, India, Greece and Turkey face 24-hour strikes, and Morocco and Cyprus will see stoppages of up to two hours, with rallies planned in port cities around the world. In Greece, metalworkers, ship-repair workers and young people are joining the dockers, and in the US, ILWU Local 10 is striking in Oakland and San Francisco. The unions are working from the Istanbul Declaration, signed in May, with each one deciding for itself how to take part. They are also fighting for their own jobs, against cuts from automation and for contracts, raises, shorter hours and safety.
The unions point to escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East and the danger of a generalized war. They condemn Israel’s new crimes in Hebron, carried out with the backing of the US, NATO and the EU. Israel’s lockdown of the city is now in its sixth day, with more than 3,000 Palestinians displaced, according to the UN. Palestinian unions have endorsed Friday’s action.
In Italy, the fight has spilled beyond the docks. The union USB has called for a nationwide general strike. Last night, the Italian government ordered transport workers back on the job last night. USB said it would defy the order and accept the steep penalties.
The unions are calling on workers and young people everywhere to stand with the dockworkers, saying “Ports for peace and the peoples, not launching pads for war.”
I’m reporting from Calabria, Italy, and I will be in Genoa tomorrow ahead of the strike to report on the ground during the mobilzation.

Not everyone gets to witness the incredible sight of rain turning into flowing rivers across the Queensland countryside.
It’s one of those special sights that reminds us just how amazing life in the bush can be!

This is also basically how everyone used the internet 20 years ago
You’d end up on some guy’s website about Civil War cannons, click his links page, discover a county historical society, then spend 40 minutes reading a forum for antique tractor owners
“What sort of website is this?” was half the experience
We called it surfing for a reason, now you open the same 4 apps every day

In 2010, SwarmFarm started as an idea in a paddock in Gindie, Central Queensland.
Last month, we opened our new Innovation Facility on that very same ground. During the evening, Andrew Bate, CEO and Co-Founder, took guests through every SwarmBot prototype that led us here, from the earliest concepts to our latest SwarmBot 5 V3.
The idea was never about getting drivers out of cabs. It was about building a better farming system: smaller, lighter machines that reduce soil compaction, cost less to own and are simple enough to repair yourself.
Sixteen years later, that idea has grown to close to 300 robots operating across Australia, delivering more autonomous hours and covering more acres than any other autonomy company in the country. All engineered from Gindie.
But this facility isn't just a reflection on where we've been. It's where the next generation of ideas will take shape. Built as a place to prototype faster, test bigger ideas and develop the technologies that will power the future of autonomous farming.
To our customers, partners, supporters and local community, thank you for being part of the journey so far.

I've been training a local young 12yo boy to milk our cows so I can have a break once a week and so there's another person to do it when I'm out of town. He shows up on time, excited to learn and eager to prove himself. The kids are gonna be all right

Civilization was built by people like this, and there is a stunning lack of gratitude in our culture for their work.
In this specific case, at least half of the apple varieties in Brown’s collection were considered “lost” until he personally tracked them down and saved them.
He literally went on quests where he did things like, tracking a lost variety back to a stump of a long-ago-cut-down tree near an abandoned homestead in remote Appalachia, took cuttings from the green shoots coming out of the stump, brought them back and planted them.
Absolute legend.
Tom Brown, a retired engineer, dedicated 25 years to preserving approximately 1,200 apple varieties from extinction.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
While this story is true, this photo has been ever so slightly edited with AI which might make me people question its authenticity. Here you can see the apple varieties written cleanly, with no AI interference.
