Contrary to popular claims framing this as a recent political explosion, the targeting of Amhara communities is a continuous thread stretching back over three decades. The historical record traces a clear line of violence from the early 1990s ,including massacres in Assosa, Bedeno, Arba Gugu, and Asebo Mountain, through the targeted attacks of the 2010s, the 2020 Shashemene riots, the Gawa Qanqa schoolyard execution, the 2022 Tole kebele massacre where over 400 civilians were killed, and the Hawa Gelan raids. This long-standing pattern extends directly into 2025 and 2026,with recurring attacks across Gida Ayana, Anger-Gutin, and the Sherka district of East Arsi, where civilians continue to be raided during seasonal harvest periods. In Arsi and Wollega, Amhara civilians face targeted violence regardless of religion. The pattern spans decades, while failures of protection leave rural communities exposed. This AKB article examines the violence and its roots in identity politics. Read: the-amhara-knowledge-base.gi…

Organized State Crimes Against Humanity and the Crisis of Truth Under the Abiy Regime in Ethiopia: The Silent Suffering of the Amhara People Under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Prosperity Party government, Ethiopia has descended into a protracted crisis in which truth itself has become contested terrain. Since the outbreak of armed conflict in the Amhara region in 2023, following the government’s attempt to disband regional special forces and disarm Fano militias, federal forces have been accused of conducting military operations characterized by recurring patterns of violence against civilians. These alleged abuses include extrajudicial killings, indiscriminate or disproportionate drone and other aerial strikes, sexual violence, mass arbitrary arrests and detentions, forced displacement, and attacks on civilian infrastructure. However, the suffering of the Amhara people extends far beyond the boundaries of the Amhara region. For years, Amhara communities in other parts of Ethiopia, particularly in Oromia, have faced reports of targeted killings, massacres, abductions, forced displacement, and the destruction of homes and livelihoods. The reported persistence of this violence raises grave concerns about whether these are isolated incidents or part of a broader pattern of persecution requiring urgent, independent investigation. The European Centre for Law & Justice (ECLJ), through its report on The Silent Suffering of the Amhara People in Ethiopia, has drawn attention to patterns of massacres, drone strikes, extrajudicial killings, forced displacement, and mass arrests. The report also highlights the interconnected suffering of Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Christian communities, including reported church burnings and the killings of clergy and worshippers. Taken together, these allegations demand serious scrutiny under international human rights and humanitarian law. If established through credible, independent investigations, the systematic or widespread nature of such violations could raise the question of crimes against humanity and other serious international crimes. At the heart of this crisis lies a deeper political concern: the use of ethnic narratives to shape power and justify exclusion. Historical narratives portraying Amharas collectively as historical oppressors or settlers have featured in political discourse, raising concerns that such rhetoric can contribute to the stigmatization and dehumanization of ordinary Amhara civilians. The Abiy Ahmed government policies and actions have reinforced ethnic hierarchies, enabled anti-Amhara violence, or tolerated abuses that serve political objectives. These allegations must be examined independently, with particular attention to the responsibilities of state institutions and officials. Equally alarming are allegations of state-linked demographic engineering through violence, forced displacement, and the dispossession of Amhara communities in parts of Oromia and areas surrounding Addis Ababa. Where evidence establishes that authorities have deliberately used coercion or violence to alter the demographic composition of communities, such conduct would represent a grave abuse of state power and could violate fundamental rights under international law. These allegations warrant impartial investigation rather than dismissal, denial, or political manipulation. A nation can't build lasting peace on ethnic hatred, forced displacement, suppressed truth, or impunity. The suffering of the Amhara people must be acknowledged, the allegations must be independently investigated, and justice must not be denied because the victims belong to a particular ethnic or religious community. The silence must end. The truth must be established. Accountability must follow. #AmharaGenocide @UNGeneva @UN_HRC @UNHumanRights @EU_Commission @EUCouncil @realDonaldTrump @StateDept @SecRubio @SenateForeign @HouseGOP @HouseForeignGOP @HouseForeign @POTUS @_AfricanUnion @ECLJ_Official

I think this elites have names. From those labeled th entire Amhara people as #oppressor to those built statues of #mutilated hand and #breast need to unlearn from thier evil political ideology. @Samlikely12 . Those who oppose the system need to identify the root cause of chaos
It made sense👉🏿"Apparently, tribalism comes in every color, shape, and personality. Perhaps it needs its own grand theory, like Marxism. Our tribalist elites have turned ethnic grievance into ideology, victimhood into a profession, and hypocrisy into an intellectual discipline.”

The suffering of Orthodox Christians in Arsi must not be ignored, and the lives lost must not be forgotten. #PersecutedChristians #ArsiMassacre
The recent violence against Christians and Orthodox churches in Arsi isn't just another local clash or random violence. It is part of a clear, deliberate pattern that has become a primary governing framework in Ethiopia since 2018. When leaders in the federal government and Oromia region embrace an exclusionary Oromummaa political ideology as their guiding philosophy, anti-Orthodox hostility becomes official state practice across five key areas. 1. POLITICAL: The attacks in Arsi aren't accidental. Federal and regional officials have spent years labeling the Orthodox Church as a political tool of the past to turn people against it. The goal is simple: weaken the Church’s independence, silence its voice, and force it under complete state control. 2. CULTURAL: When top leaders and opinion makers talk about centuries-old Orthodox heritage, ancient manuscripts, holy sites, and traditions as symbols of oppression, they give a green light to destroy them. The burning and tearing down of churches and massing its followers is the direct result of this hateful narrative coming from the top leaders, the elites, and the opinion makers. 3. RELIGIOUS: Instead of addressing legitimate community needs in good faith, authorities are actively tearing the Church apart from within. Federal and state officials have hijacked internal church issues to split leadership, force out uncooperative clergy, and install figures who will do the government's political oromumma bidding. 4. ECONOMIC: Destroying homes, taking farms, and burning down local shops isn't just mindless destruction. It is meant to ruin lives permanently. By turning a blind eye to the economic destruction of Christians, state and federal leaders are trying to force people off their land and change the region's demographics forever. 5. PHYSICAL: The state’s primary job is to keep its people safe, but in the Oromia regional state, security forces stood by while innocent believers and priests were attacked or, in some cases, actively participated. Abiy Ahmed and Oromia’s regional leaders hold direct command-level responsibility for these security failures and the complete lack of justice for victims. We cannot let the government dismiss what happened in Arsi as an isolated incident or routine conflict. It is the direct result of an ideology that has been built into the highest levels of government since Abiy came to power in 2018. Abiy Ahmed, federal officials, and Oromia regional leaders are fully accountable for turning state power against Orthodox Christians and destroying their communities.

On October 29, a drone strike reportedly hit Jari 2 displacement camp in South Wollo. At least 15 civilians were killed. These were families who had already fled violence. Even the place they sought refuge became a place of death. @UNHumanRights Source: reuters.com/world/africa/str…

October ends today, but breast cancer doesn’t. 💗 Women are still fighting. 💗 Families are still grieving. 💗 Survivors are still healing. Breast cancer awareness must never end with a pink ribbon. Early detection matters. Every life matters. #BreastCancerAwareness

These Amhara families were in Jari because violence had already driven them from their homes in Wellega, after losing loved ones, livelihoods and everything they had built. The camp was supposed to offer refuge. Now Reuters reports drone strikes on Jari 2 killed at least 15 people, including five children. All three sources said there was no fighting in the area when the strikes hit. They survived violence, displacement and unimaginable loss only to be killed where they sought refuge. The world’s silence compounds their abandonment. State sponsored #AmharaGenocide is happening and the international community is silent about it.
