Rescued with a serious bullet wound, Serenget spent nearly 7 months on carefully managed bedrest. Today, she's out with the Voi herd and setting the pace. As Keeper Philip says: "Our big girls always wait patiently for little Serenget to finish her milk bottles... They walk as a family. No one is ever left behind." Serenget still drinks in her own unique way – milk is poured into her trunk before she funnels it into her mouth, patiently finishing every last drop. Read her story and consider adopting Serenget at: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/o…

Killed for registering Black people to vote. America has a shameful history
The first NAACP official ever killed for civil rights work was taken from his home AT NIGHT by the police. Elbert Williams. Brownsville, Tennessee. June 1940. He and a small circle had begun organizing Black voter registration in a county where no Black citizen had voted in decades. One night, officers including the town's night marshal, came to his door and took him away in his nightclothes for "questioning." His body was found in the Hatchie River three days later. He was buried within HOURS, in haste, without an autopsy. No inquest worth the name. The Justice Department opened a file and quietly closed it in 1942 without a single charge. Elbert Williams' name deserves to be remembered, not as a footnote, but as one of the first martyrs of the modern civil rights movement. His story is one of many that never received justice. Our book documents 150 real cases of racial violence, cover-ups, and unanswered injustices that history has too often overlooked. Kilulu is always ready for his close-up – especially during milk time! Some orphans his age can hold their own bottles, but he prefers a helping hand. He finishes his tasty, nutritious lunch in a flash, before joining his friends at mud bath. In the 2022 drought, we rescued so many orphans from desperate situations. Over the past two years, it has been an absolute joy to see their big personalities emerge. Kilulu, who was weak, emaciated, and resigned to his fate when we found him, has been one of the greatest transformations. Donors like you ensure we are always in a position to give orphans like Kilulu a second chance. To learn more about Kilulu or support him through an adoption, visit: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/o…

⚠️ Reuters has now confirmed what many suspected. In early 2024, U.S. diplomats blocked internal cables describing northern Gaza as an “Apocalyptic Wasteland.” The reports included harrowing details: human bones scattered in the streets, bodies left abandoned in cars, & a total collapse of access to food, clean water, and medical aid. These cables were not speculation. They were based on first-hand field observations from U.N. agencies & humanitarian workers on the ground. So why were they blocked? Because they were considered “too graphic.” Because they “lacked balance.” Because they might make Israel look bad. Senior officials at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, including Ambassador Jack Lew & Deputy Chief Stephanie Hallett, stopped the reports from reaching higher levels of the U.S. government. They feared the cables would contradict the administration’s public narrative & disrupt ongoing political cover for Israel’s actions in Gaza. According to former officials, humanitarian experts were sidelined, ignored, & outright dismissed. Inside meetings, the question from officials was not how to respond to starvation, but reportedly, “Where are all the skinny kids?” This was not merely policy misjudgment, but complicity on a grand scale. The Biden administration had access to concrete evidence of mass death, starvation, & social collapse. Instead of sounding the alarm, it chose to suppress the truth to preserve its political position. They did not just ignore the warnings. They buried them. Let that sink in. ⛑️Several high-profile celebrities including Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Allen White, Lewis Hamilton, and Ramy Youssef have shared a collective video reciting poetry by Palestinian and Sudanese writers, many of them killed. The readings include work by slain Gaza poet Refaat Alareer and iconic Palestinian writer Mahmoud Darwish, whose words on exile, dignity, and resistance have defined generations. The piece is a cento arranged by poet Mustafa the Poet and Safia Elhillo, scored by Dev Hynes, and circulated as part of a broader cultural push by artists calling for an end to the violence and international attention to Palestine and Sudan.

Nearly 10,000 Palestinian detainees are held in Israeli prisons—most without trial—including hundreds of children, doctors, and academics. They are subjected to the most brutal forms of torture, and no one in the world speaks about them. Be their voice.

Happy Monday. Before we succumb to the amnesia of Trump’s Upside Down World, let’s take a moment to remember what happened five years ago. Because the shame of that day endures, and its consequences are all around us. open.substack.com/pub/charli…

VENEZUELANS DARE THE US TO INVADE After their shocking abduction of Venezuela’s elected socialist president Nicolás Maduro, Donald Trump and his cronies likely expected the country either to submit without resistance or to descend into chaos, paving the way for the fascist opposition to take power. If anything, Trump has moved to engineer this outcome preemptively by claiming collusion with acting President Delcy Rodríguez, while Marco Rubio signals that he “anticipates no further action.” But neither the government nor the people of Venezuela have any intention of cooperating. Rodríguez has defiantly reiterated that Maduro remains the legitimate president, adding: “Never again will we be slaves. Never again will we be a colony of any empire.” And the people of Venezuela continue to take the streets in overwhelming numbers, not only to demand the return of their rightful leader, but also to challenge the US to mount the full-scale invasion it’s contemplating. If it does, they say, it will face a “Latin American Vietnam”: a people under arms and a graveyard of empires. @venanalysis @VoxUmmah @qiaocollective @ProgIntl @blkagendareport @OrinocoTribune @KawsachunNews
