If you see someone having a seizure or fit, these 6 simple steps are useful to know. This advice applies to adults only.
You may also need to call an ambulance, so it’s important to know when to call 999.

This matters so much! I cannot understand the government's dilatory approach to introducing the Care Supporter Bill (Gloria's Law) fulfilling @Keir_Starmer 's promise. johnscampaign.org.uk/post/en… via @JohnCampaign

There is a real savagery to online exclusion. An elderly family friend is admitting himself to a care home because he isn't able to cope with online banking, phone services etc. He is an intelligent and capable man, but he lives alone, without family or friends near him

Thank you so much @RuthieHenshall for all you do for us. We will get #GloriasLaw, the legal right to a #caresupporter & we really hope that all will write to their MPs.. in fact here is a template letter to help! #RightsForResidents

The promise of the above is to unleash power, creativity, innovation & resources now rather than become locked in to the idea of reform being contingent on growth & spending. Social care isn’t just under resourced, it’s under-imagined.
Time to open up the ‘possibility space’

•The average age of death for white people with a learning disability is 62 years.
•The average age of death for ethnic minorities with a learning disability is 34 years - just over half the life expectancy of white counterparts.
We must address inequalities for all people with learning disabilities but this excess mortality for ethnic minorities is shocking. This is contributed to by lack of culturally competent communication from health & care staff, inadequate support and reasonable adjustments, isolation resulting from community stigma/taboo and racist experiences amongst carers and staff.
Yet the general practice annual learning disability health check specification does not specify or provide guidance on the need for ethnically sensitive and tailored approaches.
Pleased to see this webinar organised by @raceequality on 23 July specifically about learning disability heath checks for people from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic backgrounds.

Last month we launched a briefing, shining a light on the issues important to LGBTQ+ #unpaidcarers in #Leeds.
We want all LGBTQ+ unpaid carers or anyone caring for someone from the LGBTQ+ community, to feel welcome and safe to access our service.

I know influential parts of the social care sector don’t want to accept or confront this fact, but we’re not prepared for another pandemic if we continue with large scale congregate care settings as the norm.
