I hate the word “craft” in UX design. I think it’s being overstated much for it to be a subjective evaluation in hiring.

I miss the days when we just moved from one tool to another without making a fuss about it… Never did they say “I don’t use @sketch anymore…”

I don’t use Figma anymore. For the past six months I’ve been uploading my consciousness directly into the ether and allowing the work to manifest through minor disturbances in the electromagnetic field. You think you are seeing the aurora borealis that's actually my brain waves. It’s a much more intuitive process. I sit completely still in my office until a founder somewhere develops a sudden inspiration for their brand positioning but in reality it was me clipping them in their brain stem, smiling down on them like one of God's children. People keep asking what tools I’m using. I understand the question. I used to think that way too. But asking me what tools I use is like asking a glass of water what software is wetness. Its a meaningless question. I don’t design anymore. I am the pixels. I am the logo. I am the little bit of space between the 'r' and the 'n' that you better make sure is kerned properly. When you increase the font size I experience physical growth. When you cut a vector point, my consciousness goes into quantum superposition. This is where the industry is going. If you're not on board, you're going to get left behind. My entire design system now lives in the collective unconscious. There’s no documentation. Your team will simply wake up knowing the button radius. If someone uses the wrong shade of blue they’ll hear a high pitched ringing sound until they correct it. Developer handoff has been so smooth since I started working this way. My effigy appears at the foot of the engineer’s bed and I open my mouth. The CSS comes out at a frequency only their fillings can receive. We’ve eliminated all meetings. I no longer send clients presentations. I enter their dreams as a white horse with an already complete interactive brand guidelines. They’re free to leave feedback by speaking into a bowl of room temperature water. I receive it immediately and disagree with it on a cellular level. Transcending this outdated material plane is my standing Tuesday meeting. Some people are uncomfortable with this. A procurement manager recently asked whether I could provide an SVG of the logo and I just told her to close her eyes and remember the first time she felt truly understood. She looked annoyed and just said their print vendor needed an SVG by today. A big adjustment has been personal. My wife asked if I could help bring in the groceries. I explained that I now exist simultaneously across every customer touchpoint. I think there’s a lot of fear right now about what happens when designers stop needing tools. But the people who adapt will be fine. You just have to be willing to let go of a few outdated ideas. Like having a body. Being legally distinguishable from a gradient. Anyway I am open for new branding projects this quarter.

Because we can’t look up. We want to feel “powerful”.
Alasan pilih Anies: • S1 Ekonomi • S2 Kebijakan Publik • S3 Politik Internasional Alasan pilih Ganjar • Wakilnya Prof. Mahfud • Pernah jadi gubernur 2 periode • Paling sedikit kontroversi Alasan pilih Prabowo • Kasihan dibully waktu debat • Kasihan 3x kalah mulu • Kasihan bisnisnya mandek Yang menang? Yang modal kasihan Memanglah WNI tuh manusia pemaaf dan berempati tinggi.

Leave him alone. 😂
Meski cuma sejam dua jam acara. Masyarakat merasa dekat dan tahu bahwa sosok tersebut beneran ada. Saat ini Anies masih terkesan jadi “konsumsi”Ibukota.

Why do people hate AI creators? They didn't do anything.

Dear designer, don’t panic Use a barbell strategy for designing with AI Zoom way out. Work hard by hand to understand and architect systems / stories / the big idea Zoom way in. Pick moments to obsess unreasonably and invent clever twists in corners of the work where the human touch is irreplaceable: microinteractions / prose / animation / visuals / brand In the expansive middle, welcome the company of your obsequious robot underlings, and orchestrate them broadly with your exquisite taste and considerable suspicion

Not for a complex ecosystem. Try Uber or Grab. The app is only one thing.
Good software alone is no longer defensible. Anything can be recreated, remixed, or repurposed. You have to stay five or six steps ahead of the competition. You have to brute force a new reality into existence. It’s the only way to survive and succeed.

At this point with AI and new feudalism and oligarchy, bring it on.
The Pneumonic Plague that just escaped a lab in Russia is about 100x deadlier than COVID

Nice, but then if AI can create art or design, why do we still need these tools? Ha!
This is the doom I predicted a few days ago, coming for Photoshop. A clean-room open-source reimplementation. No prizes for guessing that they decompiled Photoshop to source code, processed that to some kind of non-code specification language, then fed the spec to an LLM with an instruction to generate Rust. Adobe just got nuked. And closed source is dead, dead, dead. github.com/storytold/photocr…

Ever since moving back to Indonesia I have been feeling rock bottom in everything - career and life, but at the same time also the most honest, accepting and almost can be myself most of the time. What is this feeling? Like I don’t care that much about performing.

Yeah design world is that performative these days.

I think people “building” apps can be categorised as follows: 80% performative to get hired (demonstrate AI awareness and aptitude) 10% really want to build for long term and already a market for it 10% just curious

Everybody “building” an app overnight. What is the rush?

I don’t want AI. Nobody wants AI and nobody needs AI. So why the fuck is it being shoved down our throats like some demented experiment no one asked for??

AI is a tool. You can use it to think for you. Or you can use it to learn and try things you wouldn't have attempted before. I tell everyone at Figma: we hired you because you can think. We expect you to think. Don't outsource your thinking to AI. Social media is not reality. Things are never as good or bad as they seem. Seeing things as they are and seeking truth are skills to develop. Curiosity must be cultivated. Pulling the level of a slop/slot machine can be weirdly exhausting and depleting. It can be hard and even anxiety inducing to step away when things are moving so fast, but time away from the computer is a must right now.

@zoink how do you keep your independent thinking in this tsunami of tech-bro-ai gloom and doom?
