🎯 Staying in power is the only thing a dictator who wants to stay in power can afford to think about. Every day.
Forget about NATO expansion, Russian imperialism and all that nonsense. Putin started the war for one reason: To stay in power. He will likely need another war in 2-3 years.

It was 5 seconds of video and rather than asking him to remove it or give you credit you took the most punitive action you could against him. His channel now has a copyright strike which means his entire channel and all his videos could be deleted if he gets more. Channels with copyright strikes are restricted in the YouTube algorithm and now fewer people around the world will see his reporting about the war in Ukraine. You are silencing independent journalists in Ukraine and helping the Russians right now. Just remove the copyright strike against his channel and we can all move on from this. @KyivIndependent @olya_rudenko @CaolanReports

The Oleshky ceasefire should open all Ukrainians' eyes. Looks like only 4 journalists from the MAGA propaganda network NEWSMAX are allowed on the ground. Important to note Newsmax Ukraine suspiciously just opened a Ukraine branch, headed by Ukrainian journalist Liudmyla Nemyria, who is married to right wing politician Heorhii (Hryhoriy) Nemyria, a Yulia Timoshenko loyalist who was initially approached by Trump admin to build an anti-Zelensky political coalition

DOCUMENTING OLESHKY Four American journalists from Newsmax will be on the ground in Oleshky, embedded with Russian and Ukrainian humanitarian leaders. Serving as neutral observers, they will independently record and permanently document this historic humanitarian mission.

This is a must-read. Russia subjected the inhabitants of Oleskhy to “an artificially created hell.” Now it will use them to stage a humanitarian spectacle and whitewash the egregious crimes detailed here. American media should not be complicit. theatlantic.com/internationa…

💥The two Arab-majority parties in Israel are proposing, in not so many words, to save the State of Israel. 🛘This is an earthquake. 🛘
💥The Joint List's Jabareen: "We are ready and willing to pave the way for ousting Netanyahu's government. We are against a government of bloodshed, against a politics of supremacy, racism, and exclusion, we offer a completely different alternative. The change comes through Jewish-Arab partnership, a true and equal partnership. No less than that, and no more than that."

This is a really important point. The ceasefire is welcome of course—so long as it isn’t just cover for Russia to kidnap yet more civilians. Why on Earth do they have to go through Russia or Crimea? Ukrainians should evacuate to Ukraine!
Today, Co-Chairs @RepMarcyKaptur, @RepBrianFitz, @RepMikeQuigley, and @RepJoeWilson of the bipartisan Congressional @UkraineCaucus issued the following statement welcoming the ongoing ceasefire in the occupied City of Oleshky in the Kherson region of Ukraine:

‼️Update on the 22nd Package (and a request to NAFO) The Commission as you already may be aware, has decided not to include alumina in the next package of sanctions at this time however leave the door open for national governments to amend the proposed list during what’s called “confessionals” of national ambassadors. So far, Lithuania and Estonia have confirmed they will support adding alumina to the next package. Previously Belgium did so for the 21st package but we’ve not yet heard if they continue to support it now. The more national governments that support it, the more likely it will get added and create real momentum. So this is where you guys come in. We need assistance in contacting media across the EU, to request they ask their respective national governments’ if they support sanctions on alumina to Russia. If you fellas have any contacts in the media in your respective EU state, please contact them to ask that very question. Please let us know any response by DM to myself or any of the team. We need to make this map fully green!

Since May, five Russian satellites have been shadowing a Finnish radar satellite whose images help Ukraine. At the end of September, one of these satellites suddenly inched closer. Europe relies on satellites for navigation, communication, weather forecasting and defence. Without satellites, banking, mobile and electricity networks, shipping, agriculture, the oil industry and many other sectors would be severely disrupted. Russian satellites could interfere with this critical infrastructure. ftm.eu/articles/russia-space…

With the permanent UN Security Council members so far blocking the lead Latin American women candidates to become UN secretary-general, two absurd outsiders are now being suggested -- the longtime former autocratic leader of Hungary, Viktor Orban, and a United Arab Emirates diplomat who took the lead in falsely denying her governments involvement in sending arms and mercenaries to the genocidal Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, Lana Nusseibeh. Both would destroy the UN's reputation and should be firmly rejected. genevasolutions.news/global-…

The Suwaida problem is v complex and old. 2015-2016, Jabhat Al Nusra committed horrendous crimes against Druze in a couple of villages in Edlib. Druze never forgot about this. To top it off, after Dec 8, and in Suwaida- STG appointed a Nusra governor, Nusra-affiliated chief of police and imposed some unrealistic demands on all Druze. This is not how you win hearts and minds and reconcile. Then ofc, the Druze had their own extremists (e.g. Hijri gang)..the way the STG approached the Druze issue was wrong altogether. Shaibani called it a "trap". I agree, it is the job of the gov to identify traps and to tread carefully. BBC report from 2015 below bbc.com/news/world-middle-ea…

It takes two to tango. The transitional government has been trying to reconcile with Sweida, but it’s been met with absolute refusals from the Druze militias that have an ulterior agenda. Last week, the governor of Sweida offered talks; Sweida’s groups replied by attacking government security posts with Israeli-supplied drones

"Within days, Russian soldiers poisoned their dog, an Alabai, along with all the other large dogs in Oleshky. They killed Liudmila’s nextdoor neighbor and raped his wife. A local butcher disappeared; no one knew whether he was also killed. Some neighbors were detained and beaten. Armed, masked soldiers searched Liudmila’s home three times, confiscating the couple’s Ukrainian passports and leaving them with no documents. And yet, Liudmila and Andriy stayed. They got a new puppy, also an Alabai. Russian troops started to move into civilian houses, parking tanks in what once were gardens."

Russia's Mediazona themselves explaining that their Russian casualty numbers (the main dataset used by world media) lag behind over two years, and that past years continue to ramp up as confirmations still pour in even from 2022. Further citing that many can never be counted at all for several reasons, like if the soldier was considered "DPR Militia" or foreign. Only Ukraine's General Staff numbers are an accurate gauge, as we had always assumed.
Replying to @clement_molin
Hi there. Dima Treschanin of Mediazona here. 1. We don’t consider our 2022–2023 data to be “broadly complete.” We do have non-public data that would add several thousand more people, including about a thousand from Wagner PMC alone. But our methodology is fairly conservative, and we don’t want to change it midstream. 2. According to our data so far, 2025 has been the deadliest year of the war. Although we have identified more than 100,000 people killed with dates of death in 2024, we know for certain that losses in 2025 were significantly higher. Collecting that data will take considerable time, though; it’s simply an enormous amount of work. 3. Thanks to non-public sources, we can see how long it takes the state to register deaths. For example, we’re currently working through a list in which most of the people were likely killed in the summer or early fall of 2025. Today we learned the dates of death for nine of them, and roughly the same number last week. To be clear: these people died last summer. Their obituaries, if they appear at all, will be published some time from now. 4. As for 2026, the situation is even worse: even government agencies (outside the MoD) don’t know how many people have been killed this year. And let’s be real, the MoD itself may not have the full picture either. 5. The more “static” the front line, the harder it is to recover bodies. The harder it is to recover bodies, the larger the share of soldiers listed as missing in action, and the longer and more difficult the identification process becomes. This also leads to more errors in which living people are declared dead; such cases are very rare, but they do happen. 6. Barring any major changes at the front, we expect that for the rest of this year and most of next, the new data we add will mainly concern 2025. 7. For this reason, we can’t say whether 2026 will prove deadlier than 2025. But there is no reason to believe the situation has improved in any way for the Russian army: broadly, the same tactics and strategy are being used as in 2025. That said, any claim of rising losses requires evidence, and we don’t have that evidence yet.
