This is a really important point. The ceasefire is welcome of course—so long as it isn’t just cover for Russia to kidnap yet more civilians.

Today, Co-Chairs @RepMarcyKaptur, @RepBrianFitz, @RepMikeQuigley, and @RepJoeWilson of the bipartisan Congressional @UkraineCaucus issued the following statement welcoming the ongoing ceasefire in the occupied City of Oleshky in the Kherson region of Ukraine:
ALT We welcome the ongoing ceasefire in the occupied city of Oleshky. Civilians must be free to move safely, access humanitarian aid, and reunite with loved ones. We are deeply alarmed by reports that Russia is denying Oleshky residents the right to evacuate to Ukrainian-controlled territory and instead seeking to forcibly deport them to occupied Crimea or Russia. Forcibly transferring or deporting civilians from occupied territory is a war crime. Russia must immediately end these coercive practices and allow civilians to leave for territory of their choosing. After starving residents and trapping them under the threat of relentless drone attacks, Moscow must not turn this ceasefire into another instrument of repression. These abuses are part of Russia’s broader pattern of atrocities against Ukrainians, including the abduction of tens of thousands of Ukrainian children. Russia must be held accountable for its war crimes, and the people of Oleshky must be free to return to safety at home.

‼️Update on the 22nd Package (and a request to NAFO)
The Commission as you already may be aware, has decided not to include alumina in the next package of sanctions at this time however leave the door open for national governments to amend the proposed list during what’s called “confessionals” of national ambassadors.
So far, Lithuania and Estonia have confirmed they will support adding alumina to the next package. Previously Belgium did so for the 21st package but we’ve not yet heard if they continue to support it now.
The more national governments that support it, the more likely it will get added and create real momentum.
So this is where you guys come in.
We need assistance in contacting media across the EU, to request they ask their respective national governments’ if they support sanctions on alumina to Russia.
If you fellas have any contacts in the media in your respective EU state, please contact them to ask that very question. Please let us know any response by DM to myself or any of the team.

Since May, five Russian satellites have been shadowing a Finnish radar satellite whose images help Ukraine. At the end of September, one of these satellites suddenly inched closer.
Europe relies on satellites for navigation, communication, weather forecasting and defence. Without satellites, banking, mobile and electricity networks, shipping, agriculture, the oil industry and many other sectors would be severely disrupted. Russian satellites could interfere with this critical infrastructure.

With the permanent UN Security Council members so far blocking the lead Latin American women candidates to become UN secretary-general, two absurd outsiders are now being suggested -- the longtime former autocratic leader of Hungary, Viktor Orban, and a United Arab Emirates diplomat who took the lead in falsely denying her governments involvement in sending arms and mercenaries to the genocidal Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, Lana Nusseibeh. The Suwaida problem is v complex and old. 2015-2016, Jabhat Al Nusra committed horrendous crimes against Druze in a couple of villages in Edlib.
Druze never forgot about this. To top it off, after Dec 8, and in Suwaida- STG appointed a Nusra governor, Nusra-affiliated chief of police and imposed some unrealistic demands on all Druze. This is not how you win hearts and minds and reconcile.
Then ofc, the Druze had their own extremists (e.g. Hijri gang)..the way the STG approached the Druze issue was wrong altogether. Shaibani called it a "trap". I agree, it is the job of the gov to identify traps and to tread carefully.
