Companies firing people because of AI are just trying to offset the 10x productivity growth they claim.
Otherwise they might accidentally earn all the money too fast.

Assemblers were faster at writing binary than humans were.
Compilers were faster at writing assembly than humans were.
AIs are faster at writing compiled languages then humans are.
Deal with it. There's still plenty left for you to do.

You can use AI to cut costs. You can also use AI to raise your ambition.
Too many people focus on the first. More people should be thinking about the second.
Interesting ongoing war: is it our data or is it the SaaS system of record’s data? I think it is ours.
Customers who are smart and are fully codegen-pilled will switch off closed SaaS platforms to open source in giant waves the next 2 years.
Count on it.
This seems messed up actually - when do the boundaries stop moving?
Anthropic only allows subscriptions with a real human pressing enter? You're going to have to verify with FaceID?

When you feel like all the good ideas are taken, remember that humans have felt that way for 250 years, and have always been wrong.

something that has helped me build things people actually like is building things for myself.
many "builders" and "founders" are always trying to build for other people. try solving your own problems instead.

ChatGPT is experimenting with advertising in their free subscription.
I’m old enough to remember when Google started running ads and for a few years you could get warm leads for pennies.
I also remember when Facebook launched ads and they had so many eyeballs and so few advertisers that it cost nothing to get clients for the first few years.
Corporate advertisers don’t move fast on new things. They take 6 months to plan and 6 months to test before they go in heavy.
Right now ChatGPT has almost a billion users a week. If they start running ads, they will have a lot of eyeballs and not so many advertisers until the corporates come in. There will be a window of opportunity to win customers very cheaply if you jump on it.
I wish I had of been more bullish when Google and Facebook launched ads. I didn’t recognise how unique the moment was and I also didn’t realise how fleeting it would be.
When ChatGPT launches ads, I’m going to seize the day and I’d encourage you to be ready to do the same.

if steve jobs were alive, apple's neural engine would be 5 generations ahead and every keynote would be about "the personal ai that never leaves your device". he deeply knew that privacy is a philosophy. he would have made local inferencing such a religious crusade that your ai would know you intimately and no openai or nvidia would ever take it from you. tim cook treats ai as a checklist, he is late to llms, late to the shopping spree. but jobs would've dominated the ai race. just like he did with mac, ipod, iphone and everything beautiful that he built in his lifetime.

The reason everything will not change quickly, even if AI generally exceeds human abilities across fields, is, in large part, the nature of systems.
Organizational and societal change is much slower than technological change, even when the incentives to change quickly are there.

This is false, but it might be a good thing if belief in it became moderately widespread, because then all the remaining programmers would be in it for love and not just for money.
