Was the youngest woman ever elected to Congress in 2014, flipped NY21 from blue to R+21 during her tenure, rose to be the highest ranking female Republican in the House (by ending Liz Cheney’s political career), successfully defended President Trump from the first impeachment hoax, raised historic amounts of money for Republicans in NY and nationwide, got multiple Ivy League President’s ousted, and started a lovely family at the same time.

Look, Republicans got blown out because of the administration’s miserable handling of every issue, including tariffs. They had a mandate; they had a coalition. What they wanted to do was not just popular, but necessary.
But they couldn’t follow through.
Immigration enforcement is popular, a bunch of cruel performative policies that got people killed are not.
The war in Iran might have been popular, but no one in the administration could decide if they wanted to actually fight it. They renamed the Department of War and then immediately shifted its purpose to dumb meetings about testosterone.
Americans will tolerate higher prices for a while but they expected sympathy, not officials denying rising costs and telling people to eat tortillas and chicken.
Demographic shifts are happening, but most Americans aren’t afraid of their neighbors. The vast majority of Americans think open racism is gross and wrong.
When you get a mandate, you have to maintain your coalition. Instead, they went full reality show. They blew it.

Grateful that I don’t live in Michigan so I don’t have to make the decision, but Justin encapsulates my views on the race pretty well
It goes without saying that I have major disagreements with both Mike Rogers and Abdul El-Sayed, and neither one particularly likes me.
Rogers and I regularly battled in the U.S. House. I’m a staunch defender of liberty and the Constitution, and he’s a champion of big weaponized government, mass surveillance, and endless wars. He tried (and failed) to oust me from Congress.
When I was considering a presidential run in 2020, El-Sayed wrote a gratuitous op-ed to warn people that “Justin Amash is no hero,” calling my principles “heartless” and finishing with the reminder: “Your enemy’s enemy is not your friend.”
In short, I have no soft spot for either of these guys.
I also don’t vote for “the lesser of two evils.”
I believe you should support a candidate only if you truly want the person to hold that office.
I’ve already voted, and consistent with the above principle, I didn’t vote for Rogers or El-Sayed.
But I do know which one would be more dangerous in the U.S. Senate—and it’s not even close.

Gadi Eisenkot, Benjamin Netanyahu's main rival and leader of the Yashar party, says a majority of Israelis — by more than half a million votes — voted against "the government of October 7 and draft-dodging," and that any Knesset member willing to sign on to his four principles is a potential partner in a new government.
He also warns that some are working to cast doubt on the results.
His principles:
— Recognize Israel as a Jewish, democratic, liberal and egalitarian state.
— Uphold the values of Israel's Declaration of Independence.
— Support mandatory military, national or civilian service for all Israeli citizens.
— Recognize Hamas as a terrorist organization and support destroying its military and governing power in Gaza.
Eisenkot also says he intends to use the parliamentary majority immediately to establish a state commission of inquiry into October 7, advance mandatory service for all Israelis and expand the number of people serving in the IDF, and repeal Netanyahu's judicial overhaul laws, which he calls "regime-coup laws."
On the war, he says it is not over and its goals have not been achieved — but until a new government is sworn in, he will back military operations only against direct, immediate threats to Israel that cannot wait.
He says a supreme effort must be made to avoid another election, that the decision on the next government belongs to Israeli citizens alone "without involvement and manipulation," and warns the coming weeks will be full of spin and lies.

Kinda crazy to be at a hospital called Beth Israel and be told that they don’t have kosher food.
Then a chaplain shows up and says they actually do.
Then I order and they hand me an omelette that expired five months ago.

Hello from Vail, Colorado!
It’s time to announce when we’re flying back home to Germany. November 8th, next Sunday, will be the end of our USA trip.
That means this weekend will be our last full weekend in the States and we want to make the most of it!
We’ll be in the Denver/Boulder area, and there are quite a few sporting events to choose from. CU Boulder plays Kansas State on Saturday, the Colorado Avalanche have a game that evening and the Broncos play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
So we still have the chance to experience both an NHL and NFL game on this trip.
And since it’s Halloween weekend, we also want to visit a haunted house, check out a pumpkin patch and walk through some neighborhoods to see all the decorated houses.
Could be a really fun last full weekend in America! We’d love to hear your suggestions on what we should do and which of these experiences you think we shouldn’t miss!

My kids are missing out on the rampant violence of our local public school, robbed of the opportunity to spend all day with kids who can’t read or write or do math on grade level.
Replying to @bethanyshondark @SethAMandel
Everything you do with home school you can do after school (think of it as filling in gaps) so your kids get both. Of course, at this age, it isn't really all that important, you're only robbing them of priceless lifelong friendships and fascinating tutors.

Gal Eisenkot was killed in battle against Hamas.
His father Gadi, however, can vote. And he’s running to replace Netanyahu.

Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, says AI should one day be priced by the value it creates: a few cents for telling someone to restart their Mac, maybe tens of millions for telling a drug company to move an aromatic ring to the other end of a molecule.
I understand the wish. I don't think the market will grant it.
I started in telecom in the 90s. Nobody ever paid us what a phone call was worth to them. The call that closed a deal and the call to say happy birthday cost the same, and the price was set by the next carrier willing to carry it for less.
AI is heading the same way. On Saturday Torsten Slok, the chief economist at Apollo, wrote that outside the big tech companies, corporate America is starting to treat token spending as a cost center that weighs on margins. Apollo also notes that demand is so price sensitive that it switches to cheap open-source models when prices go up even modestly.
The tens of millions from the better molecule go to whoever owns the molecule. If AI labs want to be paid for value, they will have to own the outcome: discover the drug, run the trial, hold the patent. That is why Isomorphic Labs, the drug discovery company Alphabet spun out of DeepMind, matters more than any pricing page.
Selling intelligence is becoming a commodity business. Owning what intelligence discovers is not.

Israeli elections are fun because:
1. Israel is the subject of intense global interest
2. Israeli politics is deeply polarized
3. Despite (2), the blocs don't really disagree about the thing that the world is interested in

Hans-Hermann Hoppe is not an idiot, so what he’s doing here is just evil. To say that nothing in WWI or WWII rivals what Israel is doing in Gaza is absurd, even if you accept the most maximalist anti-Israel position on Gaza. And then he immediately pivots to Holocaust denial. Really fitting hearing this in that German accent. Hoppe’s father served in the German army during WWII btw.
