it really feels like apple’s marketing team is embarrassed(?) about the dynamic island on the macbook pro because most of the shots on the website try to hide it! imo apple knows that the notch and the island never belonged on notebooks but they’re too committed to the bit

On the new MacBook Pro touchscreen the brightness of the Apple logo on the back of the lid is linked to the brightness of the screen

it boggles the mind that this was once one of the best places to learn and now it’s absolutely dead BUT: StackOverflow did this to itself through horrible moderation and mismanagement. it became so unwelcoming and hostile to newcomers that the decline was locked in long before a LLM could even write fizzbuzz. then ChatGPT happened and it fell off a cliff
AI has become indispensable for software research/debugging purposes, even if you don't use code generation, in large part because StackOverflow is dead and Google Search is unusable for anything technical nowadays we genuinely lost the technology available to use in 2015

ok what if we stopped what if we took all the money back
Dear white people, just because you give to charity to ease your guilt doesn't change the fact that your ancestors killed, enslaved, and tortured Black people. You can't donate your way out of history.

(1/5) 225 consecutive Baoding ball rotations. One less finger. Zero cameras. Over 5 minutes without a drop. We humans can manipulate objects in our hands with our eyes closed, relying on touch and a sense of how our fingers move. Can a robot hand do the same, with two balls that keep colliding with each other? We trained a four-fingered Shadow Hand Lite in simulation to perform blind Baoding ball rotation, then deployed it on real hardware with no fine-tuning. We provide no vision, no depth and no motion capture. Just proprioception and 16 binary touch signals. Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2610.23438 Website: noeyesnoproblem.github.io

every day i feel more blessed that my parish is so warm, welcoming, and full of life. young families! kids everywhere! toddlers leopard-crawling under the pews like they’re taking enemy fire the priests don’t even miss a beat
I've preached at 3 churches the last 3 weeks, at each I made it a point to commend the parents there with little ones and pleaded w the body to be patient with them. By the grace of God, we will do away with the wicked idea that the children are a distraction in the gathering.

They’re making fun of us, you know.
25 women and girls. That’s how many were killed 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙙𝙖𝙮 in conflict zones in 2025. #Peace must mean safety for women and girls. 🔗 More on the @UN Secretary-General's report on #WomenPeaceSecurity: unwomen.org/en/news-stories/… #ForAllWomenAndGirls
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
According to the same UN report, women and girls accounted for one in four of over 37,000 civilian deaths in 2025. Men and boys were the remaining three-quarters. The report notes men are still likelier to be killed. unwomen.org/en/articles/fa…

what are the richest people doing? the politicians? are they stockpiling? are they freaking out? why are we, the hoi polloi, being warned? why are we being given the heads-up? why are they telling US to prepare? whose interests does that serve?
What. Are. We. Preparing. For?? I’ll grant the premise: Having useful things on hand is useful, but anything more than that requires specifics. Preparing for an internet outage is not the same as preparing for a gasoline shortage is not the same as preparing for a nuclear strike is not the same as preparing for riots is not the same as preparing for a bank hack is not the same as preparing for a market crash… I’m old enough to remember when telling people to stockpile necessities was considered pointless panicmongering.

“don’t get amazon deliveries. people will think you’re rich” this psyop is so boring man
Your window to prepare, even with the basics, is closing. For those tracking the indicators that an event is increasingly likely, you know that it is now undeniable that something is brewing. It has now reached the point to where national governments are now overtly telling civilians to make preparations, however basic. As part of my career in the US intelligence community, one of things I supported was Counterintelligence threats to Continuity of Government (COG) and Continuity of Operations (COOP). Something i can say for absolute certain is that once governments signal that their citizens need to prepare, those preparations have already been conducted for national leadership. Governments plan for two course of action; bug in and bug out. Bug in involves hunkering down where they are. They lock down the facility. No one in and no one out. Bug out involves the relocation to a secure location that is away from potential threats, which includes hungry people. They lock down. No one in. No one out. It would be wise for you to assess your current situation and decide the appropriate course of action for yourself and family. What has been happening over the past several years is that the affluent have been making their own preparations for crisis, including efforts to secure survivable locations away from major population centers, storing food, water, and the means to defend those locations. The most recent loud signals are likely our last real warning. Governments from Eastern Europe to the UK are now telling people to have the basics on hand to weather a bad situation. Notably, this is on the back drop, for those that remember, when "prepping" was aligned with anti-government extremism under the Obama administration. What you will notice over the next several weeks is the expanding time period that governments call for people to prepare. In Europe, its currently between 3 days and a week. However, the US just sent the loudest signal concerning how significant the situation is; military bases must be self-sufficient for 90 days. The gravity of this can't be understated. The calls for preparedness will escalate in their time frames. 3 days will turn into a week. A week will turn in to a few weeks. A few weeks into a couple months. What Americans should know is that you will be on your own. FEMA does not have the resources to help people in a time of need during an event at national scale. You local authorities don't either. For those in major cities, you should know that almost two decades ago now the Asymmetric Warfare Group, in collaboration with the US military, conducted a study on the process that major population centers descend into chaos, anchored on the current "just in time" supply chain. In 3 days, a major city is out of food in the major stores. Looting starts, first whats left on shelves, then people start taking from one another. Suburbia is then the next harvest location. People organize and target food distribution warehouses. Then people head out into the country where people are prepared and things get ugly. My recommendation for people is to not focus on the "what", the catalyst for crisis. Focus on being prepared and prepare quietly. Those who fail to prepare will target those who they know are. This includes your own family members. You, at some point, will hear, "well if something happens, I'll just come to your house", stated as a joke. But this is not a joke. You have now become someone's backup plan. Don't allow this. Right now, you need to shift your mental paradigm. Randomize when you go to the store. Avoid dark hours. Slow down how many times Amazon deliveries show up at your house. And start to think about how to feign poverty. Affluence/comfort has a signature that is easy to spot and smell. You can't prepare forever. Even governments don't do that. What you need to do is prepare to weather the storm. As the saying in the military goes, "KISS"; Keep It Simple, Stupid. Water, rice, protein, canned foods. Then think basic medicines for colds, flu, and infections. Then think protection and communications. You don't need thousands of dollars, you just need to be smart. I've recommended this before, but I will say it again. Go watch two movies; "The Day After" and "Threads". This is not to scare you. This is so you can notice the indicators leading up to crisis. They are quiet at first. Governments say everything is fine. Then they say have basic preparations. Then they say have more because help wont be coming immediately. Most people will brush it off and just say it will pass. We are now at the part of both movies where governments are telling people to prepare and some degree of panic is setting in. This will get worse. You must identify your phase line for action. Assuming, in any way, that crisis will hit and the government will show up to rescue you is a mistake. Turn that fear you are feeling into focused action. For those that are prepared, keep preparing and be quiet. For those that are unprepared, start now and be quiet. For everyone, hang in there. Its going to get rough. 🥃

It’s finally happening: we can use AI to simply fix ruined cultural artifacts. Movies, TV, video games, books, music, anything
It occurs to me that we are actually on the very cusp of what I've predicted happening over a decade ago with AI, and I want you all to take a seat and think about this. We have @schmede_AI and @AzratemES and many others making animations and live action, and we have a series coming out soon on HBO which, collectively... everyone has agreed has some woke-casting that's going to harm it's popularity. So... allow me to propose somethin RADICAL, Disruptive and that will probably piss a lot of the right people off. Once they air the show... We fix each episode and throw it up online. We run it through the AI, and correct Snape. Correct some of the other problems too. Re-edit it as parody. This would be the equivalent of declaring war on Hollywood and its casting agencies by telling them "You don't get to tell us what to like anymore". It'll piss off the actors who got cast in those roles, but keep in mind they were paid up front for the acting before we ever saw a minute. It'll piss off the acting guilds, not because we're using their actors, but because we're replacing them with the correct actors or AI approximates. We might not even need to alter much of the script... but the tools now exist where we can just take what WB, Rowling and HBO give us and... Fix their shit. I feel like now is that time. I think we're there, and the technology is ready. I'm curious what @ShamashAran @GodsBeggar @histories_arch @Devon_Eriksen_ and other big thinkers think about this particular proposal. #Malfoid #HarryPotter #Yearn

Big Entrée doesn’t want you to know this but you can just very finely chop some home-cooked ham, mix it up with some pesto and pasta water, and use it as a sauce for rotini
