Today is the National Day for the Victims of Communism. Communism killed more than 100 million people in the 20th century.
This memorial, The Memorial to the Victims of Communism in Prague, powerfully captures what communism does to the human person.
My friends:
Last night didn't turn out our way.
Thank you to my friends and family whose support, friendship, and love sustained me throughout this campaign. Thank you to everyone who voted for me--I am grateful for your faith in me. I tell people one of the best things about running for political office is the number of great people you meet at their doors or at events--I will not forget you or your stories.
Congratulations to Rodney Pol, who was tough opponent and great competitor. I wish him nothing but the best. Good luck and godspeed.
I am not at all deterred in defeat. I am going to continue doing what I love and that is engaging with our fellow citizens, solving problems for our community, and building and implementing a positive, forward-looking, shared vision for NWI, a region I love and care about deeply.
Thank you again for this opportunity.

Our world doesn't need more angry people.
It needs more good fathers.
More faithful husbands.
More honorable wives.
More grateful children.
More men and women of character.
Let’s all strive to be one of them.
Have a blessed Sunday.

Born on October 27, 1858, Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, left a lasting mark on America’s public lands. During his presidency, he established five national parks, designated 18 national monuments, created 51 federal bird reservations, and protected approximately 230 million acres of public land for future generations.
Today, you can celebrate his birthday by visiting a national park site for free!

All too often we associate culture with high art, lofty ideas, and marble columns.
It is better understood closer to the dirt where it originated. To a sense of place. So reveals the word itself.
Culture derives from the Latin cultura, a Roman working word for the tilling of a field.
Look deeper and find the root verb colere used for things we do not necessarily associate together today: to till the ground, to dwell in a place, to honor and revere.
In short, all the things that allow our songs, our food, our ways and mores, everything that we understand as culture today to thrive.
This is important, for as we become a more globally connected people, ever homogenized by technology, our understanding of culture becomes unrooted from the particular locations where it was formed. This is a tragedy.

I helped secure more than $11 million in federal funding from @USDOT modernize the port at Burns Harbor in northwest Indiana. Indiana’s location along the Great Lakes gives our state a unique advantage in moving goods, and this investment will expand shipping operations and support American commerce. Thank you to @SecDuffy for his partnership in supporting this important project.

More than $10 million in new federal funding will help improve freight rail infrastructure in northwest Indiana.
I supported this investment to help modernize aging tracks, improve rail safety, and strengthen transportation networks in The Region.
