I’d be a little more sympathetic to these cloying rejections of “violence” from liberals if they dropped comparable 300 word statements decrying it every time an Israeli murders two Palestinians.
But they don’t, of course. That would mean 10 statements a day. And there’s the rub
I’m grieving the deaths of the two Israeli soldiers killed in Hebron today, and praying for the full & speedy recovery of those who were injured.
I’ve spoken out loudly this week against Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, which imposes violence on a daily basis, and I will continue to do so. But violence is not the path to ending it — or to achieving safety, freedom, and peace for both Palestinians and Israelis.
And neither is collective punishment or ethnic cleansing of an entire neighborhood, or punishing millions of people for the criminal act of two, which Netanyahu has promised to enact in response.
I’ve seen a lot this week and I’ll have more to say about in the coming days (I’m on my way home shortly). There is a path to ending this excruciating cycle of violence. It starts by insisting that every life is sacred, that everyone is created in God’s image.
For now: Shabbat Shalom, to everyone who believes in the hard work of making peace & justice a reality, for everyone.

the two thoughts that you must hold in your head:
1. i am not better than anyone else. i am a product of the random life circumstances that have accumulated and made me who i am today.
2. i am objectively better than the person talking to gpt about airport cava.

If the Cubs were a serious franchise, they'd fire Jed Hoyer. Exhausted their entire minor league system for a team with no pitching. His prized acquisition couldn't even make the postseason roster.
But they're not serious, just making the playoffs is their bar now.
I'm baffled that socialists drop materialist analysis when analyzing socialists in power. Liberals think the mayor can direct the police. Socialists should recognize the police as a militarized, influential, reactionary class that can destroy his administration.

the reason this lesbian bar story went so viral is that basically every left wing person in America has personally experienced some version of this story in their life over the course of the last decade and is really goddam sick of it

Everything shared in this movie you already knew because Palestinians on the ground in Gaza told you. But it wasn't considered credible until the perpetrators themselves repeated it.
It's disgusting actually

America's Homer is very obviously Melville and I don't see why that's still a question
Replying to @Plough
Who Is America’s Homer?
If England has Shakespeare, Spain has Cervantes, Italy has Dante, and Russia has Pushkin, then who do we have? Do we have a great poet who captures the American spirit, the American story, the American identity? We asked for contributions from @fxxfy, @DanaGioiaPoet, @zenahitz, Emily Wilson, @ae_stallings, @_Zeets, @JcScharl, @amjuster, @RossBarkan, Christian Wiman.

not to be on my bullshit again but the #1 thing a California governor can and must do is tackle the disaster that Prop 13 and the Gann limit created in the state budget. all progressive policy priorities depend on fixing that problem.

In the moral framework outlined here, countless countries would be totally justified in bombing Palo Alto, Pasadena, Ann Arbor, Cambridge, and College Station into the dust.
