I will say this - LLMs are not replacing humans any time soon. I have experience in my domaim and know what to elicit from an LLM. I'm saving myself the hassle of typing 100K LoC every year. But if companies stop hiring young people, there will be a void in the pipeline and it will create havoc. "AI will replace SDEs" is a marketing gimmick. AI will make people more productive and result in more people writing more software. This non-hiring of juniors will be fixed soon enough.

Does anyone use the touchscreen on a regular laptop? Almost 6 months after buying my laptop, I realised that it has a touchscreen when Boyzilla started running his little hands over the screen.

I for one won't lament the demise of leetcode style interviews. In 2021 I was at an inflection point in my career where I could continue writing trading strategies or go down the PM route. One of the biggest annoyances in continuing down the Strategy development path was endless and mindless rounds of leetcode garbage that HFT/trading firms put you through. So I decided to fuck it and moved to the PM track. Not that this is hassle free. Interviewing as a PM has its own idiosyncratic BS and getting foot through the door is tough. But I felt that the time spent preparing for 10 rounds of leetcode hard was an utter waste. Some firms still put PMs through a few leetcode rounds, so whatever. Now there are those that are strong believers in the value of leetcode type rounds. But those that advocate this type of hiring do so, only because they don't know any better. But what do I know...
The coding interview is dead, at least for my team at Anthropic. I've seen enough to know that it no longer provides signal. I removed it from loops this month. I have a spicy, optimistic take - I think there's an opportunity for junior engineers: felixrieseberg.com/hunger-be…

Seriously, can some of these people move out of this shithole called Gurgaon? Working at any of these places feels like stabbing yourself in the nuta because it's Gurgaon. Kudos to IMC for picking Mumbai. Everyone else is just mindlessly copying Tower.
Citadel Securities is nearly doubling its India office space as it adds trading and engineering staff The firm will move from Two Horizon Center in Gurugram to a Godrej Industries group building early next year, leasing more than 12,800 sq ft. Rent is 196 rupees ($2.06) per sq ft a month, against a typical 130-150 rupees in the area, per a Propstack filing. Gurugram hosts more than a dozen HFT and market-making firms, all competing for the same quant researchers and engineers. A 30-50% rent premium is cheap next to the cost of losing quant talent.

Employment, taxes, and positive Forex impact net of incentives is value creation. But more importantly you need to learn to walk before you run. With each passing year, expertise increases, more components will be manufactured locally, and we will move up the value chain. China didn't start cutting edge manufacturing on day 1. Rome was not built in a day.
.@andymukherjee70 is raising concerns about net value creation and trade deficits while Ashwini Vaishnaw is making an irrelevant (although not inaccurate) argument about fiscal returns, and then saying “cope harder” because he’s more of a troll than he is a minister of a serious country.

Someone should find who they are and throw the book at them. To create the impression that serving officers at sitting and dressing down the govt does an incredible disservice to what is an incredibly professional and disciplined force.
The Indian Army gave Modi govt a severe-dressing down!! 🔥 The "Agniveer Recruitments" weakened the Indian Army to such an extent we can't even imagine. > No one is ready to marry his daughter to Agniveers because of the elimination of pension scheme and short service span. > The Indian govt is compromising India's security. > Well trained Agniveers are being released when they are fully prepared to defend India. > And the most significant concern is that, currently almost all of India's neighboring countries are hostile towards it. Yet we are being forced to discharge well-trained Agniveer soldiers who are highly skilled in combat operations within regions like Kashmir and the North East's valley areas. Then how are we to deal with these hostile nations?

These left and right framings in the Indian context are kind of meaningless. The BJP which is considered a "Right wing party" has policy positions to the far far left of say the the Democratic party in the US. Whether it's abortion rights, paid maternity, minimum wages, food, housing, healthcare, taxation, or affirmative action, the democrats can't even in their wettest of wet dreams imagine doing what the three NDA govts have done. What the INC (Rahul Gandhi) wants is firmly in the basket of communism. Nobody is going to vote for that crap at the center.
Reality of today’s politics.

You arrested and prosecuted a professor from Jadavpur university for forwarding a cartoon. You have no standing to speak here. You shame all Bengalis with your actions over the last decade.

This story is hilarious. Any resemblance with real events is purely coincidental. No wonder the crazy right in the US can call the left liberal media fake news and be right about it....

Mumbai cab drivers have a heart of gold. They hear lots of random chatter. Very nice of this cab driver to applaud Prof Basu. Made his day. Got us a tweet.
Recently in Mumbai I said how, after I proposed a policy, PM Manmohan Singh said he disagreed but added that shouldn’t stop me from talking about it since my job was to develop ideas. To my surprise the Mumbai audience erupted in applause for Dr. Singh. Clearly he’s being missed.

Bayern Munich has done wonders for Harry Kane. And vice versa. First Bayern player to win anything since Rummenigge in the 80s. Extremely well deserved. Congratulations Harry.
Harry Kane going from football’s most famous trophyless player to a Ballon d’Or winner might be the greatest example of why changing employers can improve your life.

The massive amounts of copium abuse by racist/nativist Americans is a sight to behold.
The fastest way to determine if Asians have assimilated to American culture is to ask them about schooling. If they don’t realize that America and the West dominated their cultures/countries because of a childhood focus on play rather than memorization then they have not assimilated. The reason their kids are in a school in Arizona, as opposed to the American kids in an “American School in X” is a lack of appreciation and understanding of this fact. To the extent that demographics change the school system, like in Palo Alto/Bay Area, for these people, it is for the worse.

Waiting for Darab to move onto the bargaining stage...
Brazil tried Bolsonaro, saw the damage, and brought Lula back. India tried Modi, saw the damage, and kept voting for him. The difference? Education. An educated society recognises its mistakes and corrects them. An uneducated one defends them.

I don't think Khare's comments should be taken as some attack on the PMs father. It's a colloquialism that's crude but not malicious. But PM Modi is 100% justified to go after the mentioned ancestors of Rahul Gandhi. They were in prominent roles in active politics. No free pass.
Deplorable of Congress to refer to PM Modi's baap in a common slang phrase. Especially when Modi-ji has shown such admirable restraint towards Rahul, Rahul ka baap, Rahul ki maa, Rahul ke baap ki maa and Rahul ke baap ki maa ka baap.

President Lula and PM Modi have a lot in common, including their humble beginnings. Hopefully, India and Brazil can work towards growing trade without using the $.
Heartiest congratulations to my dear friend, President Lula, on his remarkable re-election victory. I look forward to working closely with him to further deepen and expand the multifaceted India-Brazil Strategic Partnership. Together, we will continue to strengthen our cooperation across diverse sectors, advance the shared priorities of the Global South and work towards a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable world. @LulaOficial

If I said something like this, even jokingly, I would have a tough time making eye contact with the many women in my life, starting with my mother, my wife, my cousin sisters, and friends. Who talks like this????
