During last Saturday’s Weyonje Community Clean-Up in Nakawa, I met a shop owner who knew how to keep her waste but did not know how to separate it. I sensitized her on waste separation at source and showed her how recyclable materials like plastic bottles can be sold to recyclers for income. Even biodegradable waste such as banana peelings can be sold to animal keepers. Proper waste separation reduces the amount of waste sent to the Buyala Waste Management Site, keeps our communities clean and turns waste into income.

Honoured to meet Gen. Salim Saleh for an inspiring discussion on advancing sanitation in Kampala. We explored bold and sustainable approaches to improving public health through better sanitation, innovative waste-to-wealth solutions, and climate-resilient practices that can transform our communities. I was deeply humbled to receive gifts from Gen. Saleh, a gesture I greatly appreciate. Together, through collaboration and shared commitment, we can build a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Kampala for present and future generations.

Shisha Smoking and Public Health. Mr.@kamyakasozi thank you for this information .@KCCAUG reminds the public that shisha smoking was banned under the Public Health Act through the Control of Smoking Regulations, 2016. The law prohibits importation, sale, and use of shisha pipes due to severe health risks. KCCA enforcement teams continue to apprehend offenders and seize shisha pots at points of source and use. These actions safeguard community health, as harmful substances affect the wider public. Offenders will continue to be prosecuted, and confiscated items will not be returned. Compliance protects lives and strengthens Kampala’s commitment to a healthier, safer city.
There is a growing public health crisis in the Kampala suburbs driven by indoor and localized outdoor air degradation, largely fueled by toxic emissions from shisha lounges and localized pollution, requiring immediate, targeted mitigation.

My sincere appreciation goes to our local leaders, partners including @UReportUganda and @towauchafu, and all residents who took part in the clean up. Would you agree that @RonaldBalimwezo is a professional politician? From what I've seen, he supports development projects that benefit the people of Kampala, regardless of which level of government is implementing them. He also appears willing to work with leaders from different political parties in the interest of service delivery.
