The longer I live and interact with the Government of Kenya in various ways, the more I see how retrogressive this entity is 😰😨😩 Zero interest and intention in improving the overall conditions of this country and its people. I hate it here.

#JuniorStarlets play Japan today at 9pm in Round of 16 of FIFA Under 17 Women's World Cup. #U17WWC It's a big deal! All the best to the girls. May they enjoy. #FootballKE ⚽ Instead focus is on sideshows like an expensive friendly at debt-filled Talanta Stadium. He Must Go.

⚽ #HarryKane became the first Englishman in 25 years to win the Ballon d’Or on Monday. Kane scored 73 goals for club and country last campaign and smashed scoring records at the World Cup, where he captained England to a third-place finish.

🇺🇸 As the #US midterm elections approach on November 3, the midwest state of #Michigan is set to have one of the closest Senate races between progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers. The race has been defined by anti-Muslim rhetoric, including from US President Donald #Trump, as El-Sayed could become the country's first ever Muslim Senator. Learn more here ⤵️

Tens of thousands of people have crossed into Kenya, fleeing fighting between regional forces in Ethiopia’s Moyale town. Al Jazeera’s Malcolm Webb says many who arrive face hunger and limited medical care, as humanitarian aid cuts threaten relief efforts.

A student-led list has won Serbia’s elections by a convincing majority, ousting the country’s most powerful politician. Former President Aleksandar Vucic moves into opposition after 14 years, as university professors begin the hard work of rebuilding state institutions.

Everyone needs to know what actually happened in Serbia. Instead of students just protest against their government, the students organized themselves into a student list and ran in elections against their government—and they have just won. Dear Serbia, congratulations on your victory; you have just opened a new door in protesting. This is history

The lesson here is that Parliamentary elections matter just as much as Presidential ones. Presidents struggle to govern in divided houses. Voting for your MP, Senator and MCA will matter, perhaps even more than your presidential candidate. Food for thought.
Replying to @gb_decarvalho
Lula won 51.79% against Flávio Bolsonaro's 48.21%, a margin of 4.43 million votes. That is a clear victory. It also leaves almost 60 million voters behind his opponent. Defeating a candidate does not dissolve the coalition, grievances or interests that sustained him. 2/...

Good to see some of the reactions to Serbia and Brazil: that it takes dedicated organising to win an election. What will it take to change a system? To fix an economy? To challenge a deeply unfair global (dis)order? To renew a social commitment to the values Kenyans agreed represent them? Just as important, who will it take beyond politicians for this to happen? Kenya is in an argument between its past and its future - how it goes depends on who shows up to argue.

Dear civic institutions (including religious institutions, chamas, sports clubs, running clubs, clubs 😅), you don’t need some big donor funding programme to raise awareness on ongoing continuous voter registration. Why is this work being left to politicos?

Many of us claim to want the liberation of women, but only if said women act and behave exactly like we want them to. God forbid women make choices that don’t align with our vision of womanhood; then we hurl all sorts of insults towards them. Surely there has to be a better way.

Do we talk enough about burnout in dysfunctional countries? The fatigue that comes from working in bare-minimum facilities and watching mediocrity being routinely rewarded. The near-despair that comes from endlessly documenting waywardness that never meets with consequences.😮‍💨

I get the feeling that if we were all honest about who we are and where we come from, most of the nonsensical conversations we see on this TL would disappear.
