To me, apart from keeping fit, running to me is about breaking my mental and physical barriers. 5 years ago, I was fat due to years of self neglect. I started by walking like 5kms. Then jogging. I hit gym and combined this with running. Went my first 10kms and felt good about myself. Enrolled for my first half marathon 4 years ago. I did 2:08. My second half marathon same year. I did 2:03. I thought, why can't I tick 42k off my bucket list. I did it. All this I'm doing hiking and with every peak that I conquer, I look forward to my next big challenge.
Well... until you wear those running shoes or hiking boots, you'll never know the kind of dopamine that you get from these activities.
I should have started earlier.
This year I missed Stanchart Marathon because it was fully booked 3 months ago. We can't gatekeep running. Let people do it whatever their motivation is.

These bags are made in Kenya, woven by hand by women on the shores of Lake Victoria.
The material is othith, a soft palm reed from the Lake Victoria region. The weavers split it into fine strips, dye it and weave it into a sturdy bag. The leather detailing and lining are added in Nairobi.
For the classic design, one expert weaver does all the weaving. The brand calls her quality rare. This is premium handwork.
This is Nyabondo Baskets, a Luo brand founded in 2015 by @JudyAtieno. She started it to keep Luo weaving alive and to put money in the weavers' pockets. The classic basket sells for KSh 3,500.
The skill is already there. What it needs is orders.

Curiosity is one of a person’s most important intellectual virtues, expressed in a drive to understand the world, oneself, and the laws of existence. It is nourished by respect for truth, sustained by critical thinking, and is one of the main foundations of complete self-realization and a flourishing life.

The longer I live and interact with the Government of Kenya in various ways, the more I see how retrogressive this entity is 😰😨😩
Zero interest and intention in improving the overall conditions of this country and its people.
I hate it here.

The race has been defined by anti-Muslim rhetoric, including from US President Donald #Trump, as El-Sayed could become the country's first ever Muslim Senator.

Everyone needs to know what actually happened in Serbia.
Instead of students just protest against their government, the students organized themselves into a student list and ran in elections against their government—and they have just won.
Dear Serbia, congratulations on your victory; you have just opened a new door in protesting. This is history

The lesson here is that Parliamentary elections matter just as much as Presidential ones. Presidents struggle to govern in divided houses. Voting for your MP, Senator and MCA will matter, perhaps even more than your presidential candidate. Food for thought.
Replying to @gb_decarvalho
Lula won 51.79% against Flávio Bolsonaro's 48.21%, a margin of 4.43 million votes. That is a clear victory. It also leaves almost 60 million voters behind his opponent. Defeating a candidate does not dissolve the coalition, grievances or interests that sustained him. 2/...

Good to see some of the reactions to Serbia and Brazil: that it takes dedicated organising to win an election. What will it take to change a system? To fix an economy? To challenge a deeply unfair global (dis)order? To renew a social commitment to the values Kenyans agreed represent them? Just as important, who will it take beyond politicians for this to happen? Kenya is in an argument between its past and its future - how it goes depends on who shows up to argue.

Dear civic institutions (including religious institutions, chamas, sports clubs, running clubs, clubs 😅), you don’t need some big donor funding programme to raise awareness on ongoing continuous voter registration.
Why is this work being left to politicos?

Many of us claim to want the liberation of women, but only if said women act and behave exactly like we want them to. God forbid women make choices that don’t align with our vision of womanhood; then we hurl all sorts of insults towards them. Surely there has to be a better way.
