#WriteMap 615 #CARRY #poem #poetry （日本語版は下に） Mid-Journey—— rain followed the bus through a country whose language I could not speak. Beside me, a stranger said something before leaving. I understood none of it. For miles, I carried those words, resisting the urge to give them a meaning of my own. Outside, the rain kept falling on villages I could not name. And I began to wonder how much of the world we must leave untranslated to let it remain someone else's. 旅の途上の理解できない言葉が行き交う異郷で、雨はバスを追いかけていました。 隣に座っていた見知らぬ誰かが、降りる前に何かを語りかけました。旅人には一言も理解できませんでした。 それから何マイルものあいだ、旅人はその言葉を運び続けました。自分の知っている意味を勝手に与えたいという衝動に抗いながら。 車窓の向こうでは、旅人が名前を知らない村々に雨が降り続いていました。 そして旅人は考え始めたのです。 世界が誰かのものであり続けるために、どれほど多くのものを翻訳せずに残しておかなければならないのだろうか、と。
