A Russian bot forgot to switch its account from MAGA to "Ukrainian." 😀 This is how Russians simulate public opinion and pressure politicians into adopting a pro-Russian stance—leading them to believe that this is what their electorate demands. That is why it is important to express your position openly.

Perspectives on the State These are some of the books I have been reading to understand how the state has been understood from different perspectives, some more rooted in philosophy, others in the social sciences.

Sony has suffered a massive data breach affecting around 2.58 million So-net and plala customers. Sony Network Communications says hackers accessed its member database on October 19. Leaked information includes: • Names • User IDs • Email addresses • Other customer information • 16 bank account records, including account numbers and bank names The company says it has not found any leaked credit card numbers or expiration dates, and it does not store customers’ bank PINs. Sony says the affected servers have been shut down and the unauthorized connections blocked, while internet services continue to operate.

Amazing achievement. In 2024, Serbian students issued this letter to "Students Around the world" “The world is on the brink of collapse, representative democracy is failing and our future is at risk...There are countless reasons for a blockade, and you know best what yours is"

Rising geopolitical conflict across the world is driving countries in multiple regions to establish new bilateral currency swap facilities. In the Middle East, the UAE has extended a new local-currency (dirham) swap line to Bahrain—whose debt has surged owing to a drop in oil revenues from Iran’s attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. Russia—financially constrained by sharply curtailed access to the SWIFT global cross-border payments system since its 2022 invasion of Ukraine—has established a new swap line with Kazakhstan. Since the financial crisis of 2007, central banks around the world have entered into a multitude of bilateral currency swap agreements with one another. These agreements allow a central bank in one country to exchange currency, usually its domestic currency, for a certain amount of foreign currency. The recipient central bank can then lend this foreign currency on to its domestic banks, on its own terms and at its own risk. CFR expert Benn Steil's interactive map tracks central bank currency swaps from the 2007 crisis through the COVID-19 pandemic and into the present. Explore our tracker to learn more about how geopolitical shocks have reshaped the global financial safety net: cfr.org/articles/central-ban…

‼️ Serbia's Aleksandar Vučić conceded defeat to a student movement after 14 years in power. Six days before the vote, Citizen Lab confirmed Pegasus spyware on the iPhone of the Belgrade University rector, who backed the students. Researchers count 16+ targets in Serbia in 2026. The hack on rector Vladan Đokić used a zero-click exploit, so he never had to tap a thing. Serbian authorities had raided his offices in March and seized computers and servers. Apple also warned prosecutor Rade Bajić in August that mercenary spyware had targeted his iPhone, which Citizen Lab is still analysing. Bajić had investigated officials suspected of forging documents to clear a Trump Tower project in Belgrade linked to Jared Kushner, SHARE Foundation says. Amnesty International has documented Serbian authorities using Cellebrite tools to unlock opponents' phones and sometimes plant spyware. Citizen Lab has not named who deployed Pegasus. NSO Group says it sells only to governments. The Students' List is projected to win 138 of 250 seats on a turnout near 70%, the highest since 1992. Vučić blamed the loss on independent media and an "American deep state".

Europe and Canada are being connected by a direct undersea internet cable that bypasses the US. The project will be called Leif Erikson, named after one of the first Scandinavian explorers to reach America. It will be one of the first parts of Canada's "Sovereign Cable System" because a large majority of current cables are either passing by the US or controlled by US companies. The cable itself will be built and operated by Bulk, a Norwegian digital infrastructure company. Europe is building resilience into a global ecosystem that has many chokepoints controlled by the US.
