AI is far newer than UE5.
UE runs poorly because it's shipped with every feature imaginable that you need need to selectively turn off as you replace realtime stuff with baking while possible or minimize the number of things that need to be rendered at all. Many game devs are just artists who suck too bad to do this.
Without these engines they wouldn't be able to work. Just replace 50% of them with CS majors and performance will improve.
